From the Journal of Medical Ethics. Yes, it's real. Many libertarians and liberals argue that a fetus is not a person and therefore an abortion is not immoral and should be left up to the mother. I personally disagree because the fetus has the potential to become a person and it is unfair to terminate the life before its opportunity to achieve personhood. I feel that since no one can pinpoint when exactly it becomes a "life" it is best not to kill it. Traditionally, the arbitrary point of personhood has been when it leaves the woman's body and magically morphs from a fetus to a baby. Well forget all that. These two ethicists are attempting to define personhood as not happening until the individual becomes self aware. Who the fuck knows when THAT arbitrary boundary is crossed, but the ethicists list a few days to a few WEEKS as wholly permissible. I have seen evidence that children do not recognize themselves in a mirror until about 1 to 2 years, and thus do not understand that they are an individual person. This is fucking ridiculous.

Wow, so we do have a moral duty to those future people that might some day exist theoretically, but once individual people are born, we have no duty to protect their future? What a load of bullshit.

As another Wackbagger recently put it, abortion should be allowed until the fetus brings home a paycheck.

human life begins at conception, its that simple.

I just don't care as I see human life no more valuable than an insect, there are individual people who are of value, but that's because of what they do, not because they simply exist, so I have no problem with birth control, abortions, late term abortions, post birth abortions, suicide, assisted suicide, capitol punishment, euthanasia, etc...

until a fetus is able to live without being connected to the mother, it is merely a parasite and not life.

Wackbag has the funniest fuckers on the planet! Just appreciate the levity....

The abortion issue can be easily solved when they put money into studying the "artificial womb" technology. Then the aborted fætus can be taken out nicey nice like and kept alive in a fake womb instead of dead in a trash bag. Maybe some Catholics would want to put their money where their mouth is, and set up some adoption service for these aborted fætuses. It may cost more to have the fætus kept alive but alot of women may pay more for the peace of mind knowing they didn't kill their baby...

The 14th Amendment weeps at this statement.

Very simple - Unborn, not a person. Might become a person, who knows.

Born- Person. Granted due process rights

That's how I see it. Do pregnant women count as two in the census? Can you claim a fetus as a dependent on your taxes?

I believe in the rights of the living voter, not a fetus. If a woman wants to make a strawberry smoothie out of an unwanted piece of her body, all power to her. It takes a certain kind of determination to do that and be more concerned for your future and maybe even the state of the society. All of this mess could be forgotten if we weren't still so uptight with the concept of pregnancy control. Pills for all!

Nooooo, but birthing and raising a child you don't want and can't afford is "the responsible thing to do" :icon_roll
