I'm thinking about buying a next-gen system soon. I'm leaning towards the Wii, but the PS3 and X-box seem to have great advantages over it. I also want GTA4 when it comes out! Anybody have any info/opinions on the issue to share?
Thanks!

360 has more games and Live

PS3 has Blu Ray

Wii is unique

depends on what you want in the way of games, online play, etc. But you've just started another thread where the fanboys are going to bash the other consoles.

The full GTA4 experience, including downloadable content, will be on the 360.

Currently, the 360 has a stable of strong console specific games out (Halo 3, BioShock, Gears of War, etc. etc) where the PS3 still hasn't gained huge footing in that area aside from Resistance Fall of Man and Warhawk.

In the end, you have to decide which system will best suit you. The 360 is a gaming/entertainment machine. The PS3 is an entertainment/gaming machine, if that makes sense.

One big reason not to get the 360:

PS3 is an overpowered, overpriced POS. oooooh yay I can play Blu Ray....yea I can also get a dvd player....die.

Wii is the way to go. Its just plain old fun.

Its best to make up your own mind, you wont find anything but fanboy based opinons here.(coming from all three sides).
So I solved that dilema by buying all three.

Upgrading your PC (if you need to) is the way to go.

The following may be the most and possibly only unbiased opinion on all machines.

They all have their ups and down, and you probably already know all the pluses, so here is the negatives.

360 - Very unreliable hardware, and customer service and support is worse by tenfold. Only other bad part is proprietary component design such as the hard drive. Since you must use the one specifically designed for the 360, they charge alot more than they should.

PS3 - Overpriced, and (for the moment at least) very poor game selection.

Wii - The only thing this console is really suffering from is it can't compete graphics wise with the above 2.

GTA4 initially will only be for PS3 and 360 so that is the two to choose from. IMO the 360 is the way to go:
1. You don't lose that much graphics wise
2. 360 will have more DL content
3. Its cheaper
4 has a bigger library right now..

I have a PS3 too but I will be getting GTA4 for my 360.

It's high priced, for sure, but with all you get it's not overpriced. The 360 decked out like a standard PS3 would cost a good deal more.

This is exactly true. If you want all the PS3's features on your Xbox, it would cost you more than the PS3 alone ($100 for wireless, $180 for HD, etc.) But if you don't want those features... godspeed.

Besides, a good gaming PC wouldn't cost that much more than either of those systems, and it would blow away the other three in terms of graphics and speed, and it can do a whole shitload more, including better handing of porn kernels.

I have a Wii... and I just got an Xbox 360.

I love the Wii... it's just plain fun. It's so different. Fun is the best way to describe it.

I haven't messed with the Xbox 360 much yet, but I'm thinking of either returning it or giving it to my brother for his birthday. I love the graphics... it's amazing. But the controls are very intimidating with a much harder learning curve. I was really looking forward to the Live part... but I've found now in every game that the kids on the other end of the headset are whiners, and get pissed with "newbies" come in to play. I get enough whiny voices at work... don't need them fed directly into my ear.

I'm sticking with the Wii.

PC shouldn't be mentioned in this discussion since he wants to get GTA4 and if he wants it right when it comes out the 360 or PS3 is the way he has to go...

Its not for the Wii either....

Surely you realize a PC version is coming later on right? And it's always the best version. Console GTA controls are piss poor.

If your a mac guy, why dont you buy a macbook pro and put Bootcamp on it?
I already have an imac with Parallels. I haven't tried Boot Camp yet.
I'd rather buy a dedicated game "station" I work/watch porn on my imac! :)

I will be getting a Wii...Eventually. I have owned all the Nintendo Systems but the N64 and the Virtual Boy.

Looks like some casual fun. Once a few games go greatest hits, and I can pick up a slew of them and a system for cheap, I will. I can wait to play Zelda, Mario, and Metroid, again.

I have a PS3 now and am 100% happy with it. I never see myself getting a 360. As said, the PS3 dollar for dollar is the best buy. If you looking for a bargain PS3 a 400$ version is rumored for Xmas.

I dont follow 360, so I'm not sure what the next big game is now that Halo 3 has been released.

Coming out soon for the PS3 are: Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Folklore, Ut3 , and Haze. Little Big Planet will be HUGE, and Home will be pretty cool, too. Plus, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, and Gran Turismo.

Most other major name games, GTA, Guituar Hero, Asssassians Creed, etc, will be miltu platform anyway.

Add a PSP to the mix and you increase the things you can do w/ the PS3.

Plus, you buy a system you know Sony will back for years to come.

I have a 360 and a PS3. Well, only a PS3 since my 360 is being repaired. When an elite costs $450, I don't think the PS3 price is that bad @ $500. If one came out at $400, I think that'd be pretty good. I also have a 61" HDTV so blu-ray is pretty important to me. If I had to pick a console based purely on gaming, it would be 360 (at the moment).

I have an Xbox360, and see myself with a PS3 in the near future, as soon as they come out with their highly anticipated exclusives. LittleBigPlanet, for instance.

I like the Wii, but could never own one. It's something that you would see in an arcade. Graphics are poor but gameplay is unique. Still, it is a very fun console, especially if you live with people.

I love my 360. It's been repaired once, but I have thoroughly enjoyed every game I've got for the system. The multiplayer is phenomenal, and XBLA rules.

The only thing I've ever hated about Playstation is the controller. They are just uncomfortable to me. They don't feel natural. Plus there's the whole X O TRIANGLE SQUARE thing. And they don't vibrate.

PS3 has some GREAT potential. The only problem is programmers haven't figured out how to make games for it. I know a guy who's working on some game set for release in 2010, and he says the thing is impossible to program for, which is why the game is taking so long to make. Forgot the name of it though, I'll have to ask him.

Im the opposite. I cant stand the 360 controller. Probably because i have been holding the ps ones for 12 years.

Dualshock Sixaxis is coming. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6179318.html?tag=result;title;0

Also, id like to mention, even without the Emotion Engine the backwards compability of the PS3 is amazing. You have the ability to play THOUSANDS of games.
