I had a hard time wrapping my head around the King of Kings series. I didn't know at certain points if there was a 1, 10 or 100 year gap between tales. Or the distance between places. The world back then was like a different planet. If he said he was giving us a history of Dune, I'd be like "Sure. Makes sense."

But listening to the description of the battles and the sheer amount of lives lost really brought home just how inconsequential life is. There's no reason why living in 2017 AD gives our lives any more value or importance than those living in 2017 BCE, yet there they are. A farmer forced into war whose civilization was wiped out in two weeks. We share the same '1'.

I'm probably on my 6th listening of Kings of Kings and starting to get a grip. It's insane that there were these giant civilizations 7000 years ago that ruled massive land areas and giant cities throughout. Slavery was a given if your city was taken, if you weren't killed. The tortures he describes are deliciously brutal.

Have you listened to Blueprint For Armageddon? Talk about mass slaughter. 90,000 killed in a day's battle was common.

Of course. Several times. BfA is amazing, and your brain wants to reject the vivid horrors of WW1, but I can visualize it better. Those people are people. The people in KoK are like aliens.

    Racist.

I really want to learn more about the Babylonians and Assyrians. Stuff from that age is like...SCARY.

IN KoK he really bridges the insanely ancient with the recently ancient, like the Persian/Greek wars.

    6 hrs

The WW1 podacast (Blueprint for Armageddon) is over 20hrs, broken up into about 6 eps.

Kings of Kings is also excellent. Think Assyrians, Persians, Greeks.

Prophets of Doom...I'll let it be a surprise.

I've never listened, but @NeonTaster told me I should check out his show and I saw this thread and thought "Hey, maybe I'll check it out."

    And then I saw that.

    Don't do that.

Almost 3 hours into KoK and it's really good. It reminds me of when I first used the Netflix app and I used to turn on Ken Burns documentaries while I drove.

Does anybody know where he's from? That accent is killing me. "Ageeyin."

When he was talking about Alexander duplicating his army 'ageeyin and ageeyin' I cringed.
