The new Macbook pros look amazing; new Mac Pro towers… yawn!

No mini-tower configuration. I don't think Apple has yet to figure out that a "pro-sumer" tower config is a big ass hole in their product line. It's DAMN hard to justify $2500 minimum for a tower that you can build or buy a PC version for around $1500.

Lenovo and Dell make GREAT mini-towers that don't cost more than $1000.

I just don't see why Apple won't make something similar.

Here's what I want:
1) Smaller tower (like maybe 20 inches off the floor instead of 30)
2) Lower price - around $1500
3) 2 or more hd bays that don't take a technician to get to. Opening my 2006 iMac was a nightmare; opening up ANY apple product except the mac pro is a royal pain in the ass.
4) A bit better graphics than the iMac, but I'll take the same card otherwise
5) More than 4 goddamned usb ports on the front!

I'm guessing its because Apple dosen't want their customer service to have to constantly deal with amateurs who open their computers and then need a genius to fix it, not mention 3rd party customer satisfaction survey results will likely fall

That, and once Apple users understand they can upgrade components individually they'll quit buying every shitty new model that comes out twice a year.

This is like asking why Rolls Royce doesn't make a pickup truck (or why Freightliner doesn't make a hatchback car.)

It's not what they do.

Goody, more overpriced/less performance shit. For $700 I can build a PC that is on level with a high-end Mac. For $1500 I can build a PC that outdoes a Mac in every way possible.

I wish people would stop buying things for name alone.

Try looking at this.

Damn. I have a feeling as soon as I get one a new one will be announced. I got the last generation Nano a month before the newest generation was announced.

The only thing I buy from them are iPods. That is the only Mac product I will own.

Its happened to me at least 3 times. The only way to not get burned by a product refresh is to just get it when they first hit the market.

Except you can't run a legit copy of OSX on it

This. I love Mac OSX more than I love Apple's hardware options (which go from awesome - the 24 inch iMac to fucking dismal - the mac mini).

You can't run Final Cut Pro on either of those machines. The majority of Mac Pros are used for video work, and FCP is the industry standard.

less performance shit
You obviously have no idea what they actually announced. The Macbook Pros they announced are beasts. They're overpriced, but not as much so as you think.

I use the 2011 Macbook pro as my "take to work with a client" mac; I can do high end retouching on 500 megabyte photoshop files with no problem; I can only imagine what the newer models can do. I love this mac.

Not quite contrary to what you said, but close...

Now that I've been out of the Printing/Graphics/Packaging bidness for almost 10 years, the Mac Mini has suited me fine. (but I did wait until the 3rd gen. C2Duo)

I haven't been the fastest kid on the block since 2001, and my dick hasn't shrunk...so far.

And how much can you sell it for in 2 years?

You should love the 4x increase in resolution in the new model.

I did buy an Acer with the same processor as the last Macbook Pro I owned. It overheated like crazy when playing games, and the keyboard started showing signs of wear within 2 weeks.

if you spec out a Dell with what you get in a Mac Book Pro, you will end up almost the same price

and having OS X is worth more than windows so it is an added cost

and I just got a new MBP in April

OK with that, it is faster than my old Mac Pro
