Sorry to start a thread on this, since it's hardly worthwhile, but...
it's very easy to tell when they are playing a bit from 'NEW due to the strong accent Anthony has.
Not being a New Yorker, I'm well-versed in the variations of the Chicaaaaagooo accent, but did Ant have a heavy Long Island accent?
I'm curious, since I know different parts of a city have variations of saying things.
Okay, dumb-ass question, but really I'm curious.
Feel free to lock me down!

Maybe that's it. He was waaaay too happy by covering his personal misery with the drink...
Now he's got his own arsenal and is shooting computers in a mansion.

He sounds more energized probably because it was the afternoons.

It sounds like he's talking through a big shit eatin' grin in those old bits. This was probably fueled by booze and a general stoke for not doing his shitty old job anymore.

Opie's words seem to flow out naturally in those tapes as well. There's a bit of a pucker factor now when he talks- it's like you're nervous for him that he's going to fumble over his words.

Anthony hides his accent very well, but sometimes, when he yells, or goes off on someone, you can really here it. even my broad, a casual listener, picks up on it.

(yes you can/yes she can...had to get that in before the inevitable, CAN YOU)

I don't notice an accent so much as I notice his sing-song Seinfeld/Regis-style delivery back then. That and Opie's closed-mouth laugh always give away the NEW tapes.

Ant still has a pretty heavy Long Island accent. Opie not so much, but it's still there.

The Long Island accent is like a southern one, you can never really get rid of it if thats how you were raised.

I fucking hate my long island accent.
Wish I was born in the North Midwest so I could check out these sweet numbers.

I love it when Opie fucks up something that ends with an a, like if a caller is named Martha he'll say "Marther", he immediately corrects himself. You feel him get embarassed.

I hear the accent too, I just can't put my fingr on it.
I always notice that fingr pronunciation too. Is that a Long Island thing as well, or just something that our beloved leader does?

Ant's LI accent was much worse back on NEW.

Rest assured, most Long Islanders pronounce the "e" in "finger".

Of course they were excited. All of a sudden they're in their hometown and getting a huge buzz, the show is taking off, they're doing killer radio and taking on Stern. Money, women, fame, the sense of having arrived and of course not having to get up in the morning.
