I need a hockey game when they come out in Sept. Has anyone played the 07 versions of both games? Which would you recommend, EA or 2K?

the 2k version has been the leader for the last couple of years, just dont go to IGN for their opinions, they cream for EA for some reason

I like the gameplay of the 2ks a little better, but I liked how EA had other leagues to play, that was cool. I'll for sure buy 2k8, then rent 08, and if I like that I'll buy it too.

NHL 07 destroys 2K7
The last few seasons have gone like this.
07 > 2K7
06 > 2K6
05 > 2K5
you get the picture. Get NHL 08
After using the skill stick, I cant go back to using a button to shoot. Factor that in with the fact that the EA version has better graphics, music and in my opinion, gameplay, I think you see my point.

Im loving this demo.
+ The computer AI is so much smarter in 08, you cannot just rush at a player who has the puck.
+ Your teammates set up more realistically, leading to alot more point play, like real hockey.
Great stuff.

Looking back, I don't even know why I said 2k7 was better than '07, since they didn't even have '07 for the PS3. If I only played one, obviously it would have been better. :arrrh:

The new features in '08 sound amazing, especially the improvements to deking/skill stick they've made. I sure as hell hope it's harder too, because through 30 games on NHL 2k7, I have just under 300 team goals. The signature jersey tucks and socks and stuff sounds like a nice little bonus too.

ea has always made the best hockey games. i have only played the 2k games a few times and don't even remember the years but was never impressed. i haven't missed a release date for nhl games in about a dozen years.

The 08 demo is pretty sick. much more realistic, very fluid skating, but the skill stick isn't as effective for some reason -- making deking & shootouts much harder. This new style of play makes you dump & chase more, cycle the puck more, and one timers from behind the net give you the best scoring chances. Also much much better control of point men. Overall I'm digging it, but it'll take some getting used to.

You actually have to cycle? Holy shit, that's kinda cool. I haven't downloaded the demo yet, and I'm not even sure if there is one for PS3, but I'll probably do that tonight if there is.

I hopw we also get a 2K8 demo before the games are out. I've been going with the 2k series for the past few years but I hear ea came back big last year (I actually didn't get either game last year because I didn't have my 360 yet and didn't feel like buying last gen)

2k has been the best for the past 3 or 4 years. Though I heard EA's game was actually pretty good last year.

I pity those who are going to pass up the EA 08, its going to be amazing. The demo is awesome.
I will never play another hockey videogame that uses a button to shoot, the skill stick is so natural.

I don't know what the controls are like for the 2K version, but there is a demo up for EA's 08 on Xbox Live and they are terrible. You use the right stick to shoot the puck and it's a pain in the ass. I don't know if this is common in hockey games today - EA '08 was the first next-gen hockey game I've played. Anyway, I didn't care for the controls.
