i saw the remix version of a lot of people's favorite album of the year is out 11/20.

it's a 2-disc set with disc 1 being the remixes by various people as well as one done by a fan on apple garage band from the multitracks trent posted on his site when year zero came out.

the second disc is dvd-rom that has multitracks of all the year zero original versions and a special site will go live on 11/20 for fans to submit more of their own mixes.

given trent's recent remarks about cd prices and such, i'm guessing the fan submissions will be available for download on that site

NINE INCH NAILS: Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D
YEAR ZERO ALBUM REMIXED: STEPHEN MORRIS, BILL LASWELL, KRONOS QUARTET, SAUL WILLIAMS, OLOF DREIJER, THE FAINT AND MORE

REMIX IT YOURSELF: EVERY MASTER MULTI-TRACK MADE AVAILABLE

"I'm very pleased with the way it turned out," says Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails' Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D (Interscope Records). "Remix records can be disposable garbage (of which I myself have been guilty to some extent) but this collection feels good to me."

Spun off from Year Zero, the #2-charting album issued in the spring, Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D features a stunning diversity of remixers, from Joy Division and New Order's Stephen Morris to classical crossover pioneer Kronos Quartet and hip-hop poet Saul Williams; from avant-garde leader Bill Laswell, electronica's Olof Dreijer from The Knife, Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino and post-punk revivalists The Faint to an unknown fan who submitted a remix via the Internet.

"I reached out to heroes, friends and strangers," says Reznor. "I encouraged those I approached to do anything and insert themselves as much as possible into the track. Some of the stuff that was done earlier led me to choosing other people to balance things out. The Pirate Robot Midget mix is a fan's work--I thought it was great, it filled a need and I asked permission to use it here. It's always interesting for me to hear my work reinterpreted--I hope it is for you as well."

In fact, purchasers can even reinterpret and remix Year Zero themselves. The CD package for Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D includes a DVD-ROM containing every track from Year Zero in multi-track format (Mac and PC). Perhaps for the first time, the master multi-tracks for every recording on a major album are being made available to the public. The tracks are pre-formatted for Apple GarageBand and Ableton Live (Mac or PC); the DVD-ROM also adds the demo version of Ableton Live (Mac or PC) and generic WAVE files at 16 bit 44K that can be loaded into any audio editor.

A special Web site, remix.nin.com, will debut upon Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D's release date. Says Reznor,"Remixes and fun encouraged."

this will be information overload for me along with "the limitless potential".

its so great to have all these new tr ideas and inspirations around.

im still not used to the idea being that we were trained to wait 3-5 years for major releases.

i love it. i want more bands/groups/individuals to catch on to the garageband master releases idea.

it really elevates the music and garageband as a program.

I finally figured it out, but I guess it's safe to say if you can't read the title you probably shouldn't listen to it.... I'm getting old.

So are you finally gonna give me back the money I payed for "Fixed"??

Then again, Further down the spiral is probably one of the best remix albums ever...

as of 11/19 http://remix.nin.com is down due to legal bullshit. link to trent's response on page though

i picked it up tuesday but honestly haven't really got around to listening to it.

i did pop the dvd-rom in and d-loaded the demo of ableton. i played with it a little and am giving some serious consideration of getting the full version. the basics of operating it are fairly simple.

i also did a decent (IMO) remix of "vessel" featuring some "oos", "i am the werewolf", and "...wiliiam...fingernail polish."

also tried a version of "the beginning of the end" with jimmy's r-tone of "i had an abortion" after each "...this is the BOTE"

i can't because i only have the demo version of the program and it doesn't allow saving, uploading, transferring, etc. i'm still on the fence on whether or not i want to purchase the full program.

what are you using to remix?
I'm sure there's some means of getting it so you can put it up somewhere.

i've tried audacity before and didn't care for it, i've since deleted from my com.

i did a mix today of "the great destroyer" that begins with an 'oos' before each verse and a chorus that says:

i hope they can not see, 'i like to make werewolf movies'

what is inside of me, 'i am the werewolf'

Loving the website. There's some crap, but most of it is pretty good. Thank you Trent!
