Why the fuck would they even make this offer? Spectre made $200 million domestically and cost $245 mil - which we all know is actually at least $50 mil less than the actual price tag - and people didn't really like it. Everyone kinda agrees that this iteration of Bond is getting tired and audiences kinda want a shakeup. Just look at how excited everyone is talking about who will be the next Bond. If Craig were still super popular as the character, the conversation about a replacement would have had quite a different tone IMO.
Because it made $880 million worldwide. International audiences really took to this version of Bond. Now that might just be a natural effect of the expansion of the international marketplace during the Craig era, but I can understand why they wouldn't want to take that chance.

That still only puts it about $200 mil in the black (I believe its break even mark was about $650). That's not bad per se, but to offer him 100 mil for 2 more movies would mean they would probably have to top that both times.

The other thing to consider is this - they took some shit for basically telling Pierce Brosnan to fuck off, and Casino Royale suffered a bit box office wise as a result, opening lower than Die Another Day. So knowing Criag was doner than done, they may have offered that simply as a PR move to say "See? We tried." It may not be a coincidence that this story dropped when it did.

I wonder if this might even be a weird kind of unspoken agreed-upon deal. "Hey, we'll tell the press we offered you 100 mil and you said no. We save face for trying to keep you on board, and you look like you aren't just in it for the money and would rather stay true to yourself as an artist. Everyone wins."

Alternatively, maybe Die Another Day was such shit that people were like "another one of these shitty shits?"

The real question is how are they going to play this? Because previously, the Bond movies weren't really connected, which worked. But now that they've tried to create an overarching plotline with a backstory, will they just keep replacing the actor and continuing how they've been continuing? Will they make it a genuine plot point that we have a new Bond this giving canonical credence to the Bond is just a code name theory? Will they get Craig in for five minutes, and then have him Regenerate into Tom Hiddleston? Will Hiddleston be the franchise's new Lazybee? Will Waltz and Bautista return?

It was four years later, so I don't think anyone was suffering from 00-Fatigue. (Do you get sick of a TV series after 3 episodes or quit watching a show because of one bad one?) I don't think people were that fond of blonde bond if memory serves. Plus they really liked Brosnan despite Die Another Day's silliness.

The overarching plotline with a backstory was a giant fizzle fart, so no matter how they play things, that has got to go. But I don't see any need to redo-Q, Moneypenny, The letter who shall not be named, etc. Just drop Hiddleston in and he's Bond and that's that. If they want to say Craig was killed in a tragic accident and come right out and say Hiddleston is the next in the long, mostly undistinguished line of Bonds I guess they could do that.

And Hiddleston may be a bit foofy, but I don't think he'll be quite Lazenby levels of foof. And he won't be one and done unless they try to continue the fizzlefarting.

I agree with you that they should just drop Hiddleston in with no explanation. A movie trying to canonize the Bond code name theory would just be a stupid idea and a total waste of time. Nobody cares about why person X is Bond. They just want to see Bond do his Bond bullshit.

I don't think they'll necessarily eliminate the fizzlefart overarching plotline, but I think Spectre did a good job at bringing everything from Casino Royale on to a decent enough close. However, I don't see Spectre as a one and done organization. Especially with that stupid "don't kill Dr. Evil!" ending.

I didn't even remember they didn't kill him at the end.

James Bond throws his gun away and lets him go to prison. I laughed in the theater when he threw the gun away because I imagined the Kurlan Naiskos sound

I will throw a stick in the wheels.... I think irrfan khan would make a great bond.

It makes more sense to me than a black bond mostly because India was such a big part of the empire

You know how I can tell it's a weird day? You didn't just make a good point/suggestion, you also made a good pro-diversity point/suggestion.

I like him as an actor also, I think he could easily pull off bond, oh and yes, I dislike Indians less than blacks

Bond, isn't an actual person as much as a caricature, I honestly haven't seen a bond movie since dalton, I tried to watch casino royal but got bored quickly, so they can just replace them when ever and it's no big deal like they did with lazenbe I honestly don't understand the hype anymore

Initially I wasn't sure of Loki Bond, but now that I've thought about it, I feel that he would be a great choice. I prefer him to Elba and Lewis, though they would be good Bonds as well.
