If you didn't already catch it this weekend, this is the 2-hour director's cut of Star Wars: Uncut, the 15-seconds-at-a-time fan sourced (each fan was responsible for making a different 15-second scene) Star Wars: A New Hope remake. Now I didn't have time to watch the whole thing this morning, but from what I gathered a lot more scenes were shot in people's garages than I remember from the original. Granted I can't say I'm surprised. Get it? I've never seen the original!

In 2009, Casey Pugh asked thousands of Internet users to remake "Star Wars: A New Hope" into a fan film, 15 seconds at a time. Contributors were allowed to recreate scenes from Star Wars however they wanted. Within just a few months SWU grew into a wild success. The creativity that poured into the project was unimaginable.

SWU has been featured in documentaries, news features and conferences around the world for its unique appeal. In 2010 we won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media.

Finally, the crowd-sourced project has been stitched together and put online for your streaming pleasure. The "Director's Cut" is a feature-length film that contains hand-picked scenes from the entire StarWarsUncut.com collection.

Many thanks to Aaron Valdez (video editor - http://www.aaronvaldez.com) and Bryan Pugh (sound design/mixing - http://www.pughtube.com) for the countless hours they put into this masterpiece.

We can't thank everyone enough for making this such a special project.
I'm trying to stop watching it. Kinda mesmerizing.

At the levy least, do yourself a favor and go to 18:59 and check out the oil bath scene.

I saw this a while ago, is this different or something?
This is the final cut. What you saw before were the rough cuts.

This is interesting. Someone did a fan cut of TPM. Of course there is still flaws, but I'm 25 minutes in and so far he did a real nice job. The Jar-jar stupidity has been reduced about 80 percent. A lot of the pointless dialog is gone. The cuts are much tighter and the droid goofiness is almost completely eliminated.

I watched a bit of that and caught something I didn't catch before, regarding Lucas' awful dialog.

"It's Queen Amidala herself, at last we are getting results."

Then,

"Again, you confront us..."

But, asshole, you just implied that she hasn't contacted you yet. "At last" means it's something you've been waiting for. Fuck this movie.

From what I have heard and read Lucas actually likes the fan made films.

It isn't "canon" so he doesn't mind it. And if people love it enough to make their own amateur films they will probabl go see I-III in 3D just so he will make IV-VI in 3D too.

I'm watching it now and enjoying the hell out of it. AWESOME title sequence with the lightsaber building.

And is this based on any of the books?

He's even okay with the re-edits, like that masterful rework "Adywans Star Wars Revisited," which seems out of character.

Clips from revisited:

This is also his. It wasn't in his original version, I wonder if he added it later.

I guess Empire Strikes Back Revisited is almost done as well. Need to find someone to burn it for me. :)

Well he did host a Fan Film Awards show once.
