ND weighs becoming 1st state to end property taxes

No more SWAT teams murdering you or making you homeless for not paying your rent to the state? Sounds nice.

Mike Kramer is an idiot if he thinks having the title to his car means it's not taxed. Unless he doesn't keep license and registration on it.

I'm not buying it. The government never takes their hand out of your pocket.
They'll get fucked one way or another. Nobody rides for free.

And apparently the fine citizens of ND have no problem with that:

    This is a bad idea

Get rid of the income tax not the property tax

Is the taxes made up in other areas?

Most of it is made up by bed taxes from hotels and condos, and a reasonable (6-7.5%, depending on county) sales tax. Property taxes in our area are supposed to be pretty reasonable, and we don't pay property tax on cars, either.

Ok, what does that have to do with the possible passage of a law? Don't start acting like this has only started happening. For as long as I can remember Sheriffs Departments took over properties. Stick to the topic at hand, stop the chicken little act.

And for the record, you're a home owner by title. Unless you buy your home outright the bank or mortgage company owns your home.

Elimination of property taxes would stop forclosures based on tax liens.

What about evictions due to failure to pay mortgage? Failure to pay rent? Failure to pay HOA fees?

That's not SWAT teams, you dick. That's just regular deputies evicting people. Now had you said police evicting homeowners, then I wouldn't have said a peep. But instead being the overly-dramatic douchebag that you are you had to spice it up with saying SWAT teams. No one is crushing down doors to evict people out of their homes. You're too stupid to realize you'd hate yourself if you took a step back and understood you're an exact representation of who you make fun of.

Failing to pay mortgages and rent are obviously legit reasons for eviction. Anyone dumb enough to agree to an HOA also deserves to be thrown out if they don't pony up.

Let me know when a state someone would want to live in offers to eliminate property taxes.

North Dakota should be like Alaska and pay people to live in that shithole.

Why should they have to choose between the two? Ditch both of them.

Aside from that, property tax is far worse. It's double+ taxation, pure and simple.

How about just a usage tax?
You're only taxed on the money you spend to buy or use.
You buy a car? Taxed on the sale. Taxed on the gas. Pay tolls.
Go out to eat? Taxed on a higher scale than a lower tax on groceries.
    Only tax your money ONCE.
None of this nonsense of getting taxed at least 2 times on your income.

Actually, PA has been talking on and off about this for decades. It hasn't gotten anywhere, obviously, but it's something that's been bandied about for a while.

Obviously, in the business I'm in, I like it on a personal level. Philosophically, I'm for it: raise sales taxes and make taxes a function of consumption. As a matter of practical public policy... it's a tough sell.

But if ND went this way, I'd be make serious moves to acquire rental properties in that state. Abesntee landlord for the win.

Looks like the same SWAT team used when the FDA fast roped from black helicopters to seize that unpasteurized milk in CA...
