Rehtaeh Parsons, a 17-year-old from Nova Scotia, died this past Sunday in a hospital, after attempting suicide on Thursday. Her mother stated that a **** in 2011 and subsequent bullying lead to her daughter's suicide.
In 2011, Rehtaeh Parsons attended a party where she consumed enough vodka to not remember most of the evening. She recalls throwing up out of a window. Four boys then raped her; one of the boys allegedly yelled, "take a picture, take a picture." According to Rehtaeh's mother, "That picture began to circulate in her school and community three days later."
The picture prompted a torrent of online bullying as well as verbal abuse at her school. When Rehtaeh confessed the incident to her mother a few days later, they called emergency health services as well the police. After a year of investigations, the police told her it was a case of "he said, she said," without enough evidence to press charges. They told the family that though she was underage, the photographs were not a criminal issue.
The family moved from Cole Harbour to Halifax. Leah Parsons reports that her daughter attempted to maintain high spirits, but was depressed:
"Every text, every negative thing she would read to me. It was hard. She tried and she kept trying... She was never left alone. Her friends turned against her, people harassed her, boys she didn't know started texting her and Facebooking asking her to have sex with them since she had had sex with their friends. It just never stopped."
Rehtaeh admitted herself to a hospital in March because of suicidal thoughts. She attempted suicide on Thursday and was taken off life support on Sunday. Parsons has created a memorial page for her daughter, where she wrote:
"She made my life complete. When Rehtaeh was born, I dedicated everything to her and promised her the world. Others in this world took that away from her."

If I was her parents: 1) Never name my kid Rehtaeh. 2) Before we moved..have the damaged goods get rid of her Facebook and her phone..3) Get a new phone. 4) Explain to her that she is stupid if she contacts any of her old friends unless she is REALLY close to them and can trust them. 5) Move further than a goddamn 20 minute drive from the old place in traffic!!!!

Ban rape!!!

What a shame I'd of let her have my daughter. I'd scream "some one is getting pregnant tonite" like Tracy Morgan as I came inside inside her.

Well. That's that. Mom says that's what the reason is, so that's what it is. Great journalism, Gawker.

Oh, wait. Millions of women have been sexually assaulted without committing suicide. Get some help for your fucking kid if she's raped.

PS. Enough of the word filter. This isn't a word we need to fear. It's not used in a bad way like other words might be.

I resent that, sir. The word "nigger" is nothing to fear either. The word has a long and proud history in United States. It fought in some of America's most important wars, serving not only on the front lines in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1957 and Birmingham, Alabama in the 1960s, but also in Compton, California and Harlem, New York in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Can't we finally give this veteran string of syllables the respect it deserves? It's done more than enough for us.

I can understand why the powers that be wouldn't want nigger used here since it would be used a lot, and might get us showing up on Google searches. We've proven to be able to use the word rape in a socially acceptable manner. I mean lifting the restrictions on "Spazz" and "lobster" didn't result in the end of the world.

If I were in charge I'd open the whole damn thing up, but I'm not in charge.

Is just ****** and ****? Is there a hidden asterisk word we don't know about?
