Haha. Ant's generalisation of the UK & Muslims did come out of fucking nowhere.
There are many reasons to despise certain aspects of the 2012 Olympics. Supposed pandering to Muslim interests ain't one of 'em.

Jon Stewart did a bit on it last night, compared the Beijing opening ceremony to what the London one is going to be... Fuck it's embarrassing.

To be fair to Danny Boyle, who's doing the opening ceremony, it would be impossible for any other country to do anything close to the spectacle of Beijing, so going completely in the other direction seems right. A mate of mine lives near the stadium and swears that he heard Macca rehearsing 'Hey Jude' last night, so I expect that he's in there somewhere.

I just hope the Olympics as whole isn't shit, that's all I want.

Getting sick to death of the commercialization and moneygrubbing of the Olympics. It gets worse with every story I hear. Can't wear a Pepsi T-shirt to watch an event; 'might' be allowed in with Nike sneakers; only McDonalds allowed to sell fries at event locations (unless fish and chips is being sold); massive screens being erected on the hills around Weymouth to prevent anyone from getting a look at the sailing events without paying; can't bring a fold-up chair to watch the sailing events, have to hire one from the organizers; only allowed to bring in 'a small snack' and 'a small bottle of water'............the list goes on. British taxpayers have paid millions upon millions for the Olympics and they're still being treated with contempt. Leaves a very bad taste in my mouth, frankly.

Where are you in the UK anyway? I'm 40 minutes away from London but don't have any tickets, my Dad has volleyball tickets, unsure what gender...
South Devon. A little village close to Dartmouth. Where abouts are you?

Northamptonshire, back from University for the summer, then back to Leicester. And yeah the commercialisation is appalling, petty and unjustified.

Great neck of the woods to live in. Close to London, but not too close to have to pay London money for housing, etc. Close to Birmingham. Probably the best area in the country in which to live.

Yeah it's great being in the middle but not London middle; in Northamptonshire I live in a little village so the contrast is great. So, Opie threw you under the bus huh? Calculated.

I like the Al Murray t-shirts.

What happened to him? I was obsessed with his show when I was over in 2008, but when I was abroad last year I didn't even see a mention. He was probably the quickest talk show host I'd ever seen.

And what was Ant referring to with pandering to Muslims and immigrants? I've been semi-concerned about this ever since the Vancouver Olympics turned their opening ceremony into 1 giant apology to Indians.

Al Murray is still touring, and still doing very well. Ant was referring to the volleyball women supposedly being told to cover up. Just not true, though: they were given permission to cover up a bit if the weather stayed cold.

It could be seen that the UK is sensitive towards Muslims as America is with black people; like portrayals in the news, stereotypes, attitudes, cultural sensitivity towards Islam, etc. It's not really the case though. Jimmy has mentioned it a few times, he speaks with authority on the issue when he has none.

Yeah, it's really not true at all. I think they get that impression from the 1 or 2 inciting racial/religious hatred court cases that come out every year, which to be fair, are pretty shocking to most Americans.
