Back to the taped format but still airing on Friday nights.

Fight in's looked pretty good for the most part. Should be a decent season.

It's welterweights this time around.

Carwin said Nelson was basically a dick throughout the whole taping & Dana did as well

There seems to be a lot of in house drama this year with the fighters
The mohawk guy looks to be a big dick too

I hate to say this, but drama makes the show worth watching. Obviously it is mainly about the fights, but they are at most half the episode and the good ones are the short KOs or subs for the most part, so they are an even smaller part of the overall episode. That being said, their "coming up on this season" montage looked pretty damn good to me. I'll be watching. And yeah, you can already tell Nelson is going to be a complete dick.

If they want the actual show to get better ratings they should go back to having pointless contests each week to determine who picks the fight.

It will bring in more viewers

I like how they didn't even get 4 minutes into the first show before Roy pissed Dana off

Friday is terrible. The ufc fan base isn't home channel surfing at 10pm on Friday.
I agree but that is still a horrible rating & lower than last year with two higher profile coaches

I DVR'd it and watched yesterday. Looks like a house full of idiots which should be good viewing.

Are they doing the live fight format, or is all taped?

No reason to tune in for it.

Guess the cost of going live is too much for a non ratings grabber.

the live format sucked

if you're gonna watch C-D level fighters, you want some bullshit drama storyline to fuel it, and it's nice to have the post-fight reactions all edited together clean with music and such

the live format was just like, empty

Bonner said that he & Griffin offered to coach a season & live in the house with the fighters but Dana said no
That makes no sense bec I think that would be better than the coaches the last two seasons (as far as draws)

I love the show...and I don't really know how you could "Fix it"...I have seen every season/episode...The "Mr. Military" guy sure looked like a dickhead for fake touching gloves and shooting to a 2x leg..

I think a big problem they have is when people are eliminated with no hope to return...and they sabotage the house...they need to keep the eliminated people from ruining the people who are still in

I liked both formats
They live format was a fun change & I thought it helped the show
It seems they (FX/UFC) felt the live format was to blame though (obviously not)
The biggest issue with the live format is keeping the fighters & coaches together for 13 weeks
That is a bit much

TUF: The Smashes, Australia vs UK is much better than this American Season.

Only two episodes so far, but I like it. New episodes are posted Thursday night: http://aus.tuf.tv/media/tuf-smashes-ep-1-tv

Unless you know some of those websites where they post these things early. Then you can get them on wednesday.

Cormier (10-0 MMA, 7-0 SF) was scheduled to fight former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir (16-6 MMA, 14-6 UFC) in about a month in Oklahoma City. But Mir dropped out with an injury, and White and the Zuffa brass went to work on his replacement.

White thought it was going to be Matt Mitrione (5-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) – but the UFC heavyweight turned down the fight earlier this week.

"It f---ing makes me sick," White told MMAjunkie.com on Saturday following the UFC on FUEL TV 5 post-fight news conference. "Listen, you don't want big opportunities, I hear you. I get it, then. All I can say is, I guess he doesn't want big opportunities. I get it. Duly noted.

"He wants to fight a guy who weighs 205, but doesn't want to fight the guy who's the real heavyweight, the legitimate guy who's ranked. And Mitrione's not getting any younger."

"F---in' insane," White said. "It makes no sense to me, and it's insane. I'm a little bummed out by it. We'll figure it out. Yeah, (he's already got a fight booked). He said, 'I'll just take that one.'"

White told MMAjunkie.com that Cormier agreeing to fight Mitrione wasn't any kind of an issue.

"Cormier will fight anybody," White said. "The guys who are the real guys fight anybody, man. They'll fight anybody."

meanwhile

@roynelsonmma: Heard you need a replacement @danawhite , put me in since you love real fighters, C'mon man and I will fight Dec too

@roynelsonmma: I begging you @danawhite and @lorenzofertitta put me in since you need someone. I will fight and I promise people will watch

If he gives the fight to Nelson he loses a bigger fight, the return of Carwin, and the pay off of TUF, and it's also a UFC main event not strikefarce.

'TUF 16' coaches Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson randomly tested by NSAC

The Nevada State Athletic Commission reportedly has selected Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson for out-of-competition testing in advance of their fight at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale.

MMAWeekly.com first reported the impending test, which was subsequently confirmed to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) by the fighters' representatives.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission declined comment on the matter.

Carwin manager Genet said the commission notified Carwin today of several potential testing locations in the Denver area and gave the fighter a "short timeframe" to attend one. The fighter consented.

Nelson would presumably take the test in his hometown of Las Vegas, though the details of it could not be confirmed.

The heavyweights and opposing coaches on "The Ultimate Fighter 16" have recently made headlines over possible additional drug testing for their fight, which headlines the Dec. 15 event at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and airs on FX and FUEL TV.

Through rep Mike Kogan, Nelson invited Carwin to participate in out-of competition testing with the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA), imploring the opposing coach to set an example for the sport.

In an interview with MMAjunkie.com, Genet said he wasn't opposed to additional testing but questioned VADA's credibility after it posted a defamatory story on its website (VADA said it had no knowledge of the story's author and said an intern who posted the content was fired).

Genet said he reached out today to Nelson's camp to discuss additional options for out-of-competition testing.

Now, it appears the process has found them. The NSAC reinstated the program late last year after budget problems shelved it in fiscal year 2010-2011.

Most famously, Alistair Overeem failed a random test in advance of his scheduled fight with Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146, which forced the UFC to scratch him and install Frank Mir.
I guess Roy got what he wanted in the end...

Well...if you saw the absolute sham NSAC judges tonight, and the absolute ass reaming Dana White gave them you would probably understand why the NSAC was "randomly" testing Carwin and Nelson...

Holy Shit the judges were massively awful...you have to watch the fight to even believe they rendered the decision they did...a guy who had a guys back for 4 mins LOST the round...

The last 3 fights have gone to the judges. 2 were clear robberies, the other dana thought was too, I thought it was close and could have gone either way.

I am watching last nights ep now & Dana is on a tirade about fighters trying to finish. He makes a great point about this season's judges being so bad that a fighter has to finish to guarantee the best guy wins.
Roy misses that point completely & tells his fighters that they should continue to try & stay healthy (which I get) & don't make mistakes (fight defensively)
