Meltzer:

The Nevada State Athletic Commission administered surprise drug tests this afternoon to Alistair Overeem, Cain Velasquez, Junior Dos Santos, Roy Nelson, Frank Mir and Antonio Silva following their appearance at a press conference for the 5/26 UFC 146 show in Las Vegas.
Overeem was to be tested several times unannounced due to the controversy regarding him not getting the right test and delaying tests and such before the Brock Lesnar fight. When he was approved for a license he was told that he would be given unannounced tests over the next six months.
The commission decided that since the top six fighters on the show were all in Las Vegas at the same time, and Overeem was already to be tested, to test everyone.

This is good for the sport, they should do it more often, but is it wrong to say I'm nervous about the results?

Overeem better not fail, especially when he knows the NSAC will test him randomly twice this year.

someone failed, can you guess who?

Alistair Overeem (36-11 MMA, 1-0 UFC) us unlikely to fight champion Junior Dos Santos (14-1 MMA, 8-0 UFC) for the UFC heavyweight title this summer at UFC 146.

Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) the No. 1 heavyweight contender failed a pre-fight drug test conducted this past Tuesday following a press conference for UFC 146.

Overeem's "A" sample was flagged for an elevated T/E ratio that exeeded 10-to-1, well over the 6-to-1 limit. Kizer said the heavyweight has the right to request the test's "B" sample, which, if negative, would make him eligible to receive a fight license.

The former Strikeforce champion was among six top-billed fighters who were tested for the all-heavyweight pay-per-view event, which takes place May 26 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. All were tested for diuretics, masking agents, anabolic steroids and T/E ratios in addition to drugs of abuse.

Dos Santos, Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez, Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva all passed their tests.

It's not the first time Overeem has run afoul of the NSAC. He was granted a conditional license to fight Brock Lesnar at UFC 141 after missing a pre-fight drug test ordered by the commission, which reinstated out-of-competition testing this past July.

Answering to the commission via telephone during an NSAC hearing held three weeks prior to UFC 141, Overeem said he missed the test because he had flown back to his native Holland to care for his ailing mother and wasn't made aware of the obligation. When he got word, he submitted an invalid blood test conducted by his personal doctor and then submitted urine that wasn't tested.

The NSAC gave him a license on the condition that he submit to a drug test conducted by an accredited laboratory, which he did two days later (and subsequently passed), as well as pass a drug test upon arriving in the U.S. for the Lesnar fight and submit to two random tests.

This past Tuesday's test served as one of those random tests, which also followed a fight-night test at UFC 141.

Because Overeem's conditional license expired on Dec. 31, the NSAC will not receive a disciplinary complaint against him as it does for licensed athletes. Instead, he will need to appear before the commission should he choose to apply for a license, which notably, hadn't been filed for UFC 146.

With one half of May 26's event on the shelf, the UFC may give one of the main-card heavyweights an impromptu title shot

UFC should just cut the guy completely

So who gets it?

Mir?

I think so & Cain sits out more time to "heal"

I can't say I'm surprised.

This is why they need random tests.

To prevent cycling.

I expect Valasquez gets moved to the main event and Kongo or Carwin get added to the card.

Reached for comment following news that UFC 146 headliner Alistair Overeem had registered elevated levels of testosterone on a pre-fight drug test – and that his title-fight slot might be up for grabs – Frank Mir had two words.

"Oh, cool," he told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

Obviously, it was news to him, but the ex-champ quickly thew his hat into the ring.

Before he took a phone call from his manager, Mir expressed hope that he might be first in line if, in fact, Overeem (36-11 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is not licensed to fight Junior Dos Santos (14-1 MMA, 8-0 UFC) at the May 26 pay-per-view event, which takes place at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission today confirmed that Overeem's testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratio came in at more than 10-to-1, well above the commission's allowable limit of 6-to-1. The fighter is required to appear before the commission should he apply for a license to fight Dos Santos. The conditional license granted for his fight with Brock Lesnar at UFC 141 expired on Dec. 31.

If Overeem applies, he could appear at the NSAC's next meeting, which is targeted for April 24, a full month before UFC 146.

Mir (16-5 MMA, 14-5 UFC) is scheduled to fight fellow ex-champ Cain Velasquez (9-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) in a title-eliminator co-main event at UFC 146. Among the top-billed fighters on the all-heavyweight main card, he is the only one coming off a win – a submission victory at UFC 140 over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in a rematch of a meeting four years ago at UFC 92.

So you could say he's the best qualified to act as a replacement should Overeem be unable to fight Dos Santos.

"I'm excited that maybe now I can get a title shot," Mir said.

However, UFC president Dana White said he isn't sure what Overeem's failed test means for the UFC 146 headliner, according to the Twitter account of Canadian MMA show "UFC Central."

So for now, Mir will watch and wait.

Why are we using spoilers for news info?

I also just got called sexist on sherdog for saying that I don't care about women's MMA.

My opinion has been the same about women's MMA from day 1.. If women want to fight they should be allowed to, in the same division as men of the same weight class. I believe in true equality, not this sexist "women have their own divisions" crap.

Plus, they shouldn't be allowed to wear a shirt if the men aren't.

That works too.

Maybe they shuffle the whole damn card up.
I think Mir is where it goes, Dana must be pissed

Makes no sense

Also Meltzer said Reem basically knew he would be tested (unofficially) because he was in Nevada & they needed a test
Makes him even more of a fool
