Pakistan gave China access to US chopper that crashed during the commando raid that killed Osama bin Laden despite requests from the CIA not to.

Pakistan gave China access to the "stealth" helicopter that crashed during the commando raid that killed Osama bin Laden in May despite explicit requests from the CIA not to, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.

During the raid, one of two modified Blackhawk helicopters, believed to employ unknown stealth capability, malfunctioned and crashed, forcing the commandos to abandon it. See GlobalPost: Navy SEALs had "kill" order on Osama bin Laden, report claims

"The US now has information that Pakistan, particularly the ISI, gave access to the Chinese military to the downed helicopter in Abbottabad," the paper quoted a person "in intelligence circles" as saying.

See GlobalPost: Bin Laden raid: Neighbors say Pakistan knew

Pakistan, which enjoys a close relationship with China, allowed Chinese intelligence officials to take pictures of the crashed chopper as well as take samples of its special "skin" that allowed the American raid to evade Pakistani radar, Reuters reported.

No one from the Pakistani army was available for comment, but the Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate (ISI), Pakistan's top spy agency, denied the report. The paper said Pakistan's top general, chief of army staff Ashfaq Kayani, denied that China had been given access.

Not like it was the Spaceship from 'Flight of the Navigator'. It was a Chopper that crashed. I like how it's inferred that it was some ultra high-tech bird with special armor that China doesn't have.

I HIGHLY doubt that the tail rotor was the only thing changed on that bird. I'd be similarly shocked if the military also officially referred to this bird as a Blackhawk.

Can't say I really blame Pakistan. We did conduct a raid in their territory without their consent, and then politely asked that they don't show it to China, who immediately after the Bin Laden raid publicly affirmed Pakistan's sovereignty and condemned the unilateral US action.

We should have just leveled that entire compound and the chopper along with it when we were done. Collateral damage be damned. If you're going to do something like that, might as well go all out. Then you still have US aid as leverage if the Pakistanis want to start some shit. NEVER give THEM leverage, which is exactly what we did. Pretty "Gutsy call" n'est-ce pas?

What women and children? They didn't leave anyone there. I didn't say level the neighborhood. Just that compound. And change your avatar before you ruin Breaking Bad for everyone.

Unfortunately the SDB is fielded in severely limited numbers with front line fighter units and I don't believe has been used with Drones (which would have carried out an attack on that compound IMO). Using a 2000+ lb smart bomb in that area wouldn't have been the greatest of ideas.

That's all well and good, but don't be surprised if Pakistan then shows our top secret helicopter to a country that they consider a better friend of theirs. War sucks, but do a few collateral civilian targets outweigh possible future Chinese helicopters that can attack us undetected? I guess they do.

You said.
BTW I was correct in the breaking bad thread about Jesse getting a promotion. Everyone thought he was going to be killed but I knew.

He was in a residential area with kids playing outside his compound so what else could collateral damage be?

It was the middle of the night. What kids were playing outside? Plus, there is a difference between attacking a crucial target and maybe possibly hurting someone uninvolved and just blasting the whole neighborhood. Collateral damage is ALWAYS a consideration. You damage power lines - that's also collateral damage. Uninvolved people will lose power. It's all about how much collateral damage you cause, and whether it is worth it or not. To avoid giving China our stealth technology, I'd say a couple of dead Pakistanis are totally acceptable. THIS IS A WAR, STUPID. During WWII, which was a "heroic" war, we would have just carpet bombed that entire region.
