    info

In what has to be the most entertaining live animal cam we’ve seen, the Discovery Channel has set up an intimate 24-hour camera at the “Penguin Encounter” exhibit at SeaWorld San Diego.

While most live streams inviting viewers to fawn over cute pandas or puppies are cute enough, this particular UStream session puts you at eye-level with the energetic crew of penguins. They’re a loud and raucous bunch, too.

The video will be available around the clock throughout March and April, allowing virtual visitors plenty of time to tune in for penguin feedings or to catch a live Q&A with the SeaWorld crew on Mondays from noon to 12:30 p.m. Eastern, starting March 19. The live cam is set up to drum up excitement for the premiere of Frozen Planet, a seven-part series following life on the North and South Poles, featuring footage gathered over four years. The series will premiere on the Discovery Channel on March 18 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

“Penguin Encounter” is home to almost 300 penguins, and includes all five Antarctic species: emperors, kings, Adélies, gentoos, and macaronis. The penguins love getting up close and personal with the camera, and it’s easy to appreciate how quickly they can run from the vantage point of the various camera angles. They’re held in 25-degree temperatures
