It's got more going for it action wise than Lord of the Rings but yes its a kids book but its not simplistic ala the Narnia books, where a battle will be over in a page and a half.

ITS ABOUT BILL BO BAGGINS SAM! HE FINDS A RING AND KILLS A DRAGON THEN SOME BIRDS KILL PEOPLE SAM!
oh my god it's Quincy!!

it could be a phenominal movie if done in the same epic-scale as LOTR. The Battle of the 7 Armies could be the coolest thing ever shot if done right.

Hell, I still like the animated version of The Hobbit

It's looking like he's just exec producing. He's directing "Lovely Bones" then doing the "Tin Tin" trilogy with Spielberg.

There's quotes from Sam Raimi that he was offered the job to direct it but he said he would only do it if Peter Jackson was producing. So that might be a sign.

Well if he's not directing it, then that site should really rename the headline of the article.

Peter Jackson to Direct `The Hobbit'

Id read recently that they were planning two movies, the first part being The Hobbit and the second covering the events in The Silmarillion, as kind of a bridge to the LotR trilogy. Has anyone seen confirmation of this anywhere ?

From my understanding they are making a movie based the Hobbit and a movie based on the events between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings and what is in the appendicies and we'll probably see the Wizards and Elves drive the Necromancer (Sauron) out of the Southern Mirkwood a event only mentioned in passing by Gandalf at the end of the Hobbit.

Miss Meet the Feebles, Dead Alive Peter Jackson.
Dead Alive is one of my all time favorites. In an article he mentions the possibility of doing another low budget splatter flick again:

And I'm also interested in making really low budget films, too. I get really inspired by seeing Edgar Wright going out and (making) SHAUN OF THE DEAD. These guys are just having fun and I'd love to go back and do some real grungy horror films for zero budgets again. I'll figure out ways to do that...
Full article (its over a year old but still one can hope):

Fingers crossed........

Well . . . it's not like the action in LOTR wasn't pumped way up for the movie. Remember the battle with the shadow demon in the first movie? Two paragraphs in the book. I can see Jackson doing the same here.

Except those two paragraphs took up 10 pages. We get it, Gandalf's cape was majestic, move on.
