I'm mad and upset
Dozer (the saint bernard) attacked and bit my girlfriend's daughter. Sent her to the hospital with several wounds on the side of her head. The humane society has classified him as a dangerous animal and wants me to have him put down. I've asked around to trainers that might be able to curb and reverse whatever aggression he has, and they've basically told me that they could turn him into a docile pet but they can't do anything to guarantee he won't be triggered again and recommend that no matter what, he be kenneled and muzzled any time guests are around. They also told me that it's probably my fault because I spoil him so much...full run of the house, never has to wait for food, etc. He's made himself the protector of the domicile and treats everyone with suspicion. The attack was unprovoked, she had visited a few times and we normally kept them separated because Dozer would jump and bark at her and she was intimidated by him. It just sucks, he is such a good dog for me, loyal and mostly obedient. And outside of the house he wouldn't hurt a flea. He loves attention from strangers when he's on a leash. But between the fact that he may attack again and that the county wants him put down, I'm probably going to have to make an awful decision.
Just torn up about the whole thing......
