Republican Representative: slavery a 'blessing' for black people

Op-Ed: Arkansas Rep. Jon Hubbard says slavery a 'blessing' for blacks

By John Thomas
Arkansas Republican Jon Hubbard, in his book "Letters to the Editor: Confessions of a Frustrated Conservative," argues that slavery was a "blessing" and that African-Americans should be thankful that their fathers caught the slave ship to America.

Arkansas Timesreports that Rep. Jon Hubbard of Jonesboro, writes:

“… the institution of slavery that the black race has long believed to be an abomination upon its people may actually have been a blessing in disguise. The blacks who could endure those conditions and circumstances would someday be rewarded with citizenship in the greatest nation ever established upon the face of the Earth.” (Pages 183-89)

Hubbard argues that African-Americans are lucky that they came in slave ships to America and escaped Africa with its famine, civil war and poverty. According to Talkbusiness.net, he argues:

“... even while in the throes of slavery, their lives as Americans are likely much better than they ever would have enjoyed living in sub-Saharan Africa... Knowing what we know today about life on the African continent, would an existence spent in slavery have been any crueler than a life spent in sub-Saharan Africa?” (Pages 93 and 189)

But in spite of the fact that African-Americans are lucky to have escaped hell in Africa, they have not learned the value of education even though the opportunity has been made available to them. Hubbard ponders:

“Wouldn't life for blacks in America today be more enjoyable and successful if they would only learn to appreciate the value of a good education?” (Page 184)

He argues that blacks have not made themselves inclusive and productive members of American society. He wonders aloud whether African-Americans will ever become fully integrated:

“… will it ever become possible for black people in the United States of America to firmly establish themselves as inclusive and contributing members of society within this country?” (Page 187)

But in another another passage, he comments on how integration of blacks into white American educational system downgrades it:

“…one of the stated purposes of school integration was to bring black students up to a level close to that of white students. But, to the great disappointment of everyone, the results of this theory worked exactly in reverse of its intended purpose, and instead of black students rising to the educational levels previously attained by white students, the white students dropped to the level of black students. To make matters worse the lack of discipline and ambition of black students soon became shared by their white classmates, and our educational system has been in a steady decline ever since.”

Arkansas Timesreports Hubbard tackles the issue of immigration, the core subject of conservative paranoia about the future of "Western Civilization" and notes, interestingly, that American Christians take a similar view of immigration as Germans under Nazi rule:

"...the immigration issue, both legal and illegal... will lead to planned wars or extermination. Although now this seems to be barbaric and uncivilized, it will at some point become as necessary as eating and breathing." (Page 9)

The Daily Mailreports that the book caused outrage among Hubbard's colleagues in the Republican Party. Many compared the book to the outrageous publication by Arkansas House candidate Charlie Fuqua of Batesville, who suggested that all Muslims should be deported.

According to the Daily Mail, State GOP Chairman Doyle Webb, described the books as highly offensive. US Rep. Rick Crawford, of northeast Arkansas, said the writings of both Republicans were "divisive and racially inflammatory."

The offspring of those slaves are certainly better off than they would have been otherwise.

Of course they are but nobody will ever admit that.
What people also forget is that many of those slaves
were sold by their own people to the westerners.

It wasn't no pic-a-nic to be living in Africa in those days
even though being brought here as slaves was a shit thing
to do.

Who wants to bet HHD didn't even read the story? The guy makes some good points. We won't even consider the free handouts that race hustlers like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have guilted white liberal morons like HHD into supporting, and forcing the rest of us to pay for.

Adding to that...who wants to bet HHD actually believes the lefty Democrats were the ones who fought to free the slaves, fought to give blacks equal rights, and thinks that Abraham Lincoln was actually a left-wing Democrat Progressive...(and ya know...not the "Father of the Republican Party)?

He also probably thinks it was Republicans that tried to block the Civil Rights Act, and not democrats like Clinton's mentor Fulbright, or Al Gore Sr.

He's going to get lynched over this.

This is an example of a "Kinsley gaffe" - a politician telling a truth that is not supposed to be told to the public. Kinda like Romney's 47% except he didn't know it was going out to the public.

I agree with everything he said, and I believe it to be historically accurate. Sorta reminds me of what Rush Limbaugh said about animal rights..."what animal rights? Look at how they treat each other!". Even today the negroes don't try to integrate themselves, the insist on dressing differently, acting differently, ebonics, "fuck da police" rap music, fake African heritage bullshit, on and on. If you do try to fit in the neighborhood you're looked at with suspicion. They distance themselves from us, we didn't exclude them.

Ahh yes...the Civil Rights Act of 1964...where you had Republicans spouting off..."We will resist to the bitter end any measure or any movement which would have a tendency to bring about social equality and intermingling and amalgamation of the races in our (Southern) states." - Ronald Reagan probably said that...and not Georgia Democratic Congressman Richard Russell.

This quote was from a Republican named Strom Bushmond ;) ..."This so-called Civil Rights Proposals, which the President has sent to Capitol Hill for enactment into law, are unconstitutional, unnecessary, unwise and extend beyond the realm of reason. This is the worst civil-rights package ever presented to the Congress and is reminiscent of the Reconstruction proposals and actions of the radical Republican Congress." - Obviously he meant Democratic Congress...since Democrats have always supported the rights of blacks and would NEVER dare twist history and make blacks think that the conservatives and righties want to round up all blacks and gas them.

If slavery is so great, why don't we just practice it now, and emancipate the whole fucking world then? Afterall their "offspring" would be better off, right?

And saying that Republicans are great advocates of racial equality because they used to have Lincoln is like saying the Bulls will win the Championship because they used to have Jordan.

And George romney marched for civil rights yet his church wasn't practicing that shit for a while longer...

Still didn't read the article huh? Good thing I didn't take that bet with Don.

What an awful comparison.

The fuckin NAACP was founded by a group of black and white Republicans! Read a history book! Oh wait, don't...because it's not like any of those school books would dare mention that the Republican Party were (and technically still are) the great advocates of racial equality, while the Democrats were using the KKK to threaten and murder black and white Republican voters in order to gain power and enact shit like Jim Crow and other bullshit legislation.

It's people like you who read memes and headlines and not the details in the stories that make it possible for people like Obama to get elected president.

Fact is...Democrats are the ones who are notorious for using and abusing the blacks in order to gain power. And it's worked out quite well for them over the years, especially today. I mentioned the late 19th Century, after they started the KKK and used that group to build support throughout the southern states, threatened anyone (black or white) who were voting Republican and used their power to keep blacks from voting and passing Jim Crow laws. Then you have the rather inconvenient fact that Democrats were against the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments...in addition to every civil rights legislation up until 1965. Fast forward a few years, after Republicans started the NAACP, and you had President Woodrow Wilson, who got a rather surprising number of black voters, mainly because he was promising to bridge the racial divide between his party and blacks. Oh, and because incumbent Republican President Taft only appointed about 30 or so blacks to his administration and they were disappointed at that low number. Wilson bought their votes, took power, appointed only one black (and kept 8 from Taft's administration), then proceeded to segregate the entire federal government. And turns out, he was basically a white supremacist. Suckers! Ahh yes, a great Woodrow Wilson quote..."The white men were roused by a mere instinct of self-preservation… until at last there had sprung into existence a great Ku Klux Klan, a veritable empire of the South, to protect the Southern country.”

A couple more years forward, and you had FDR appoint a Klansman to the Supreme Court. Fast forward more, you've got LBJ and his framework for The Great Society, where he figured out that enslaving blacks and throwing entitlements at them will, as he so plainly put it, "have those n****** voting Democratic for the next 200 years." And LBJ was right...they've built the narrative and belief that blacks don't have to work to succeed in life...just collect your government handout and don't forget to vote Democrat. They've used and abused that entire race. Oh and, ignore history, Republicans actually hate you and have always hated you. They want you all round up and put back in chains and back on the plantation. Racist! Racist!

If slavery is so great, why don't we just practice it now,
We don't practice it now because white Europeans and North Americans did something unprecedented in the history of human civilization... they freed the slaves. Slavery had been the rule rather than the exception for all of human history right up until white Europeans and Americans outlawed the practice and freed the slaves... an unprecedented historical happening*. Funny how that little detail seems to get lost in the whirlwind of "Whitey held slaves!" outrage... the little detail that "Holy shit! Whitey actually freed the slaves!"

Slavery is not great... but there is no question that the modern day descendants of black slaves in America have certainly benefited from the sufferings of their ancestors, and the emancipation granted to them by whitey. White guilt and black fauxrage is the only thing that keeps this FACT from being universally-accepted, and self-evident knowledge.

*- Sorry, Jews... your Exodus story is a myth.

and emancipate the whole fucking world then? Afterall their "offspring" would be better off, right?
White North Americans and Europeans enslaving(or merely dominating) the modern day Africans, civilizing and organizing their country (read: apartheid) and then subsequently emancipating the future generations would absolutely benefit the offspring of modern day black Africans... and it has, and it did. Africa enjoyed it's most civilized and prosperous times under apartheid... but white guilt ended apartheid far too prematurely... long before the timing was right for emancipation to be granted, and the result was... predictably... collapse, chaos, and savage barbarity. So... instead of the "offspring" of modern-day Africans enjoying the benefits of white rule, they will suffer the horrors of black rule.

Hooray for white guilt!

Yes... yes they absolutely would.
Yes... absolutely. On this we agree.

If Africa was better than America, American Black Africans would just leave, right? They get more gibsmuhdat than they'd make working a whole year in some 3rd world moolie cesspit.

This is one of those obvious, unspoken things that you aren't you aren't supposed to say. As a politician you can't say a true statement such as "Slavery better Blacks" or your career is toast.

I appreciate the history lesson in this thread.
Here's another history lesson... The British rule of India... "The British Raj"

British rule in the Indian subcontinent between 1858 and 1947.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Raj

The timing worked perfectly. White European rule took India from a disorganized steaming shitpile of superstitious savages... organized, educated and civilized them... and then emancipated them when the time was ripe. And now India is the world's largest democracy, a nuclear superpower, and an economic powerhouse... in short... India is a civilization.

The timing was wrong for Africa to follow the same path... the scourge of white guilt hit too early in the civilization process... emancipation was granted far too prematurely, and the house of cards came tumbling down.
