“District 9” and “Chappie” helmer Neill Blomkamp has been set to direct “RoboCop Returns,” a new entry in the iconic sci-fi action franchise that began with Paul Verhoeven’s famed 1987 original.

Justin Rhodes, who co-wrote the upcoming “Terminator” film which Tim Miller is directing, is rewriting an old script from Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner who penned the original and wrote this as a direct sequel to Verhoeven’s original.

The 1987 film followed a cop who, on death’s doorstep, is used as an experiment to create a new type of patrolman – half man, half machine. He struggles with resurfacing memories and corrupt city officials, while the film itself included extreme visceral violence and satirical commentary of the 1980s.

The original was followed by two sequels, a mini-series, and a 2014 remake – all of which have been largely forgotten.
Just don't. It's the same flipping thing with Terminator. There's a reason why the latest versions keep failing. Constantly rebooting them doesn't make us want more.

So what other properties do you suppose Blomkamp asked about between Alien and this?

D9 Blomkamp would be great, but we're getting everything after D9 Blomkamp because that's who he really is.

I was already in a bad mood from watching Ronin (1989) and now I see this.

Whenever you're in a bad mood, think about the Faith film. Her pluckiness can get anyone through the day!

Speaking of Faith, I found out her super power is she has her own orbit that can pull objects to her. She's a Family Guy joke.

Ironic, since there a few things more repelling than a trying-too-hard-to-be-pleasant fat person.

This would actually be good if he doesn't take the Hollywood approach and makes it his own. Make the setting Capetown instead of Detroit. Cape town is in decline (like Detroit), controlled by a black majority running it into the ground (like Detroit). He knows the country and his movies seem more real in a South African Setting.

I wonder how good South African tech is that they can conceivably make Sharlto Copley into a Robo-Cop. But the premise blames black people for everything wrong in society, so I have to support it 100%.

Oh no.....this movie is going to have some anti-Trump message to it I bet. The evil CEO character will have a shitty Trump wig and he's going to say "hugely" instead of "biggly". He's going to want to turn all the Mexicans into evil cyborgs and the end of the movie will be 50 CGI- Robo-Mexicans vs Robocop followed by a pro-immigration one liner and camera smirk.

Didn't Blomkamp already have his shot at a robot movie?

I fear that very soon movie watching is going to become insufferable. Movies that were conceived, written and shot since Trump won are now just starting to come out (for example Jurassic World 2 has two very obvious digs at Trump and at least one more that could be interpreted as a dig). Get ready for the flood of Trump parallels, Trump-esque villains etc.

I hope you don't go to movies often because you're going to be so salty, I'd be concerned about your sodium levels.

I just saw Ronin from 1989 for the first time.

I also watched Billy Elliot. I liked it until I found out he wasn't a real person and then the whole movie came off as a propaganda movie by some queen.

Fuck Billy Elliot. As a straight white male, anything that doesn't showcase straight white males requires me to have hissy fits. It's the only way to show the SJWs how dominant and masculine we are and doesn't at all make us look comically insecure and pathetic.

I will also grumble loudly if the values presented do not match up precisely with the values I believe in. The only way to stop the other team's desire to silence dissent is to silent their dissent first.

For the good of the Republic.
For the sanctity of our cocks.

Unfortunately, as you watched Billy Elliot, presumably by choice, you are now my enemy.

Then we shall meet on the field of battle.
