Round 2: THE GLOVES COME OFF

Reading Used Lad Bag's post in another thread really struck me, O&A have been the best thing on radio since I started listening to them in the WNEW days and I refuse to let XM, or any medium for that matter, castrate the show I love. We have the power, gentlemen.

Anyone who wants to sit back and hope the problem will just go away on it's own will only be right if O&A end up off the radio. What you don't get is that the special interest groups won't apply logic or reason in lodging their complaint after their monitoring finds something "racist" or "sexist". It does NOT matter what O&A say, the SIGs will find a way to lodge a complaint and use pressure on sponsors to drive O&A off the air. XM will censor O&A heavilly on the other end to prevent anything "offensive" from going over the air. THE WHOLE FUCKING SHOW IS ABOUT BEING OFFENSIVE IN A HUMOROUS WAY. They'll be forced to walk a tightrope between censorship from their bosses and the SIGs, and in the process they won't be able to do anything at all. Doing nothing and hoping for the best will only result is a slow death.

The only way we save O&A (and R&F) is by being such utter assholes to XM, they'll realize they're better off appeasing us, letting O&A do the show they want, and telling the SIGs to fuck off. It has to go to the next level, we have to go on the offensive, we have to make it impossible for XM to conduct day to day business. It's time to do whatever it takes, the gloves come off. We crash their servers, we hack their system, every inbox in the company filled with gay porn, angry protests outside the compound, their phones ring 24 hours a day 7 days a week, EVERY talk show on XM have their phone lines taken away, public protest "assults on the media" everywhere. We have to turn the heat up and the time to do that -if not now, is very very soon.

We have to organize these attacks and have plans in place to execute them. The time to organize taking it to the next level is now
.

As much as I want XM to cave in and give us what we fucking paid for, I really don't think they give a shit if the Pests cancel.

It's beyond canceling at this point, it's time to make a very public display of our displeasure. Our mobile billboards were a great start, but I do think we need to make "day to day business impossible"

We do that by flooding other shows' phone lines, exec emails and staging our own AOTM campaign.

The problem with this type of protest is that the companies just have to wait it out, and it eventually goes away. You can't have a full assault that lasts long enough to make a large company like XM obey. Let's face it, a normal person can't keep up such protest for too long, and we're lazy bastards.
Plus, the idea is to let the company's bad idea of O&A fade away, rather than reminding them that they turn people into animals, and that getting them back on only encourages this type of behavior.
The only place to hurt them is in their wallets, which is why the cancellation plan is the most feasible.

I like the idea, but you really need to be careful about how you execute the plan. Intentionally crashing a companys server can be a federal offense under the patriot act.

XM Corporate Phone Numbers:
Phone: 202-380-4000
Fax: 202-380-4500
Listener Care: 800-XM-RADIO (800-967-2346)
Be dialing people. Tell them you are thinking of resubscribing and ask if they can guarantee that O&A will be uncensored, and that your subscription is contingent on that guarantee. The savage I spoke with and her manager were not willing to tell me either way; they told me to call corporate HQ for an answer.

telling the SIGs to fuck off.

angry protests outside the compound
Based on what I've heard about the XM compound's location, the SIG's (as you call them) have angry protests there regularly.

By SIG's, I'm assuming you mean Sparkiling wIGgles....

2. Encouraging the pests to break federal cybercrime laws in the name of Opie and Anthony will not do ANYTHING good for the bboys.
3. The bboys barely survived the last big round of "assaults on the media" -- do you honestly think the new "Post-Imus" (God, I hate Earl for that comment) environment will for one second tolerate a similar incident?

I appreciate your passion sir, but let those that have done the heavy lifting so far continue to do so.

Poopiebottoms: SIGs = special interest groups

cknight725: so what can we do to be assholes that fucks with their day to day business without breaking a federal law? Honestly, I'm not advocating breaking a federal law that gets someone killed, but if a few misdemeanors occur in executing an act of civil disobedience, is that something that should be off the table? When words, letters, emails, and peaceful protests go unheard what recourse is left? For instance, is it illegal for someone to use a Perl script (etc) to automate an attack on their email systems or phone lines? (not that I know how to do that). Can we take it to the next step without breaking any laws? For instance an AOTM against XM that doesn't result in any reporters being touched (etc).

Thomas Jefferson stated in the Declaration of Independence:
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.--
he was talking about Governmental oppression, but I ask you -in a world of global corperations dictating policy that controls peoples lives just as effectively as any government, do not the same principles apply? Do we not have the right to oppose that tyranny? While every one of us has to search their own heart and decide for themselves what they are willing or not willing to do to fight oppression in the 21st century, I would argue that we have that right.

If you agree with that principle, the next step is to formulate a well planned and measured strategy to oppose that tyranny. Start small, define the limits, and build from there until we see the results we demand. :mad4:

Yes, yes it is. I believe the line is crossed when you use automated software with the intent of causing harm to their systems. It's alright if you call and/or email them repeatedly to annoy them, but when you are using systems to actually cause their shit to shut down you will be in trouble really fast. And not just a misdemeanor. I would not suggest that anybody do this, as much as I might love to see it happen.

Yes, its called a Denial of Service attack and they are in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1029, ACCESS DEVICE FRAUD and 8 U.S.C. § 1030, COMPUTER FRAUD AND ABUSE ACT. (The government would more than likely prosecute under the guises of fraud because a DoS of this nature and your publicly described intent would be designed to artificially alter XM stock prices by crippling their day to day business.) Its NOT a misdemeanor, its a felony and carries with it a penalty of up to 15 years in prison.

This is a TERRIBLE idea and would serve only to bring the wrong kind of attention to O&A. Additionally it would bring the wrong kind of attention to Wackbag and all its members because the conspiracy to commit the crime occurred here and conspiracy is also a punishable offense. Conspirators could be penalized for up to half the sentence of the "ringleader".

I can assure you that XM has the necessary security equipment in place to trace the DoS directly back to the perpetrator, even if you "spoof" an IP. I can also promise you that XM already knows about your little idea through "trolls" here on the board.

Again, I appreciate your passion, but this is not 1776, and you sir are not Thomas Jefferson. Just as we scream for the bboys comments to be taken in context (humor) our response must be of an appropriate context. We are a long way from convening the Continental Congress and declaring our independence from evil corporations and SIGs MAAAAAANNNN ...

To this point, the fans have played the game exactly right, stayed within the law, and taken steps to beat the SIGs at their own game. This is the how to fight the good fight.

Mods: Lock this thread, because of comments meant to conspire or solicit the commitment of a crime its now a liability to the board and its membership.

OK, calm down a little, Skippy. He was just asking whether or not it was illegal, and was soliciting assistance in finding a way to fuck with XM that was in line with the law. Nobody said "let's go for it!" or anything, it's fine as long as we drop it.

Although it's true that using automation to generate a denial of service (DoS) attack is illegal, the "line is crossed" way before then. Any attempt to intentionally screw with their systems or cause damage to their operations in any way is illegal. As far as calling and emailing to annoy them - that's called harassment and I'm not sure if it's a criminal offense, but it could result in you being personally sued.

I would love to see XM sue a pest because we were calling/emailing too often trying to get answers to our questions. There is as good a chance of that happening as me paying for XM starting June 15 (i.e. ZERO)

A wise man once told me READ THE FUCKING POST BEFORE YOU RUN YOUR MOUTH. What's in italic has been reposted from another thread, the author is Used Lad Bag.

And let me be clear: no one is encouraging criminal activity, I personally will not support it, and neither should anyone on this board, in that sense, you're right, it's just bad publicity for the bbboys.

But being "pesty" is absolutely fair game, sir.
