Hey team-I'm going to be visiting Denver soon and am trying a new approach on my rinky dink Blog in writing about places I go.

I just did one on Indianapolis and realized after the fact that I didn't utilize one of my greatest resources: the lovely folks here at the bag.

So, while my last column focused on the craft brew scene in Indy, and the city in general. I'd planned to do something similar in Denver, tho I'm going to add a stop at Roller Derby where a college friend of mine is involved, but, any suggestions of cool stuff to experience there? Particular recommendations on local beer?

Ill bug the wife when I get home and post something. Been here about two years but spent most of it dirt poor, so lots of stuff around that I have yet to experience.

    Five points, Yo!

I understand there's a small craft beer brewed in the foothills that is wonderful. Might want to check it out.

I understand most of this isn't local but here is what I got on beer stuff around here.

The Budweiser tour is awesome if you want to take the drive (About an hour), especially if you do the Beermaster tour. It costs a whole $25 but its pretty in depth and you get to try Budweiser products fresh, which are so good they only vaguely resemble their shelf-stacked cousins. http://www.budweisertours.com/z01/index.php/fort-collins/programs

A tour I have never went on myself but I have heard is amazing is New Belgium brewery tour. Of course, if you are coming soon forget about it because at the moment it is booked out to the back end of August. http://www.newbelgium.com/culture/brewery/visit-us/tour-calendar.aspx

I can't find a tour for my favorite local beer (I think its local, brewed in Boulder and hadn't heard about it till I moved here) is Hazed and Infused. They have a local pub though, so if that is more of what you are looking for here is the link. http://www.boulderbeer.com/

Finally, Blue Moon beer started in Denver at the Sandlot just outside the baseball stadium. Its a brewery/BBQ place that I have heard is a lot of fun so you might want to check it out.

I know more about restaurants and a little about entertainment scenes you should check out, so either way let me know.

Yeah, I am interested in anything that might have the potential to be interesting to write about, so food and entertainment are certiainly in the wheelhouse-bring it on, and thanks for the suggestions.

I just sent a message to New Belgium to see if I could get in with them. Did same with Boulder beer as well. Thanks! Any and all suggestions are welcome.

There's a ton of breweries here. Rock Bottom Brewery at 16th and Curtis is great, as is the Breckenridge brewery on Blake Street and 22nd. If you're looking for good food and a huge selection of craft beer, go to the Yardhouse on 16th and Tremont. 2 blocks down at 16th and Cleveland is a great Irish pub called Katie Mullens. Another couple good breweries are the Wynkoop Brewery which is at 18th and Wynkoop. Down the same street one or two blocks (stay on Wynkoop) is the Chophouse which has good food too. Under the Chophouse is a Howl at the Moon dueling piano bar which is a great time on Friday and Saturday nights.

If you're looking for "bro" bars try going to either The Tavern Downtown at 20th and Market or LoDos which is right across the street. Expect lots of dudes wearing tank tips and douchebag sunglasses. Fun place if you're into day drinking on the cheap.

If you decide to take a day off from beer and want to try a bar specializing in liquor, the Polished Tavern has really good infused vodka and some really good Polish food. This is at 15th and Lawrence.

You can't go wrong stating on or near the16th street mall. Avoid the area around the Rescue Mission as this is where the thousands of homeless go every night to try and get a bed. During the day they just stand around begging. 99% of the time they will just ask for money but I've had one tell me he was going to beat my ass because a white boy was in his neighborhood. I was living in Five Points for the first 2 months I was here and as long as you just stay on main roads you're fine. If you have anymore questions just ask. I live in Capitol Hill directly across the street from the Capitol building.

Hang out with the roller derby chicks as much as possible. That should give you something interesting to write about.

Actually if you've never been there, I'd recommend it. The food is awful but the place is amazing

They are pretty good. They have weekly specials on their own beers (Try their black stout, it's very good, very hoppy). The food there is quite good as well. If you are looking for a quiet meal, go to the second floor early evening (5 or 6ish). There's normally a good amount of room at the bar and they have a ton of tables.
