It really is scary how big this has become.
Don't buy the $cientology bullshit. They've only got one ship and it's a busted ass, tiny (by modern cruise ship standards) little cruise ship that was built forty years ago. It only carries 360 passengers... compare that to modern cruise ships... like Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas which carries 4,300 passengers.

The current $cientology ship is the Freewinds:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freewinds

They've owned four ships prior to the Freewinds, but they've all since been scrapped.

The Freewinds is a hunk of crap, and if you ever get invited on board... don't.

During a previous refit/remodel of the ship it was found to be contaminated with crumbling asbestos from stem to stern. To save time and money, the Co$ decided not to remove the asbestos but rather leave it in place and use their special $cientology mind powers to render it harmless.

No one on the ship knew anything about asbestos, nor did they care. I thought to myself, the Church has been tricked into buying a cruise ship for $11 million that is a total liability, that is so full of lethal asbestos, the only option is to sink it in deep water.

Approximately 80 or 90 such Scientologists were brought to the ship and so employed. As they were Scientologists, the were easy to control and the asbestos problem was no longer an issue. They completed the remodeling by June 1988 for the Maiden Voyage. By the time the ship was finished, all the paneling was put back in place and the walls were painted and wallpapered, the floors were carpeted and new furniture was installed. It looked great, but behind the paneling, the asbestos was left hanging and flaking and falling apart. The ceiling panels were set in a metal grid system, which is a long way from being airtight. Every time a panel is removed for routine maintenance, asbestos dust is released into the rooms, cabins and corridors of the ship. This is continuing to this day. A ship at sea is subjected to intense vibration and so the already loosened asbestos becomes progressively looser and releases more airborne contamination.
Fucking nutbags. :icon_roll

so......in conclusion

scientologists love semen and can never have enough.....

as a side note, it isn't a matter of how popular it is getting it's only a matter of the exposure is is getting now due to the public being more able to gain information from the web and other technology. The reference that people keep pointing to (Nazis) is still a very large and very functional organization. They have just gotten alot better at remaining under the radar.

holy S that town was invaded and conquered.
Although not quite as thoroughly as the $cientologists had envisioned.

I posted about the "Super Power Building" in a previous thread...

http://www.wackbag.com/showthread.php?t=76249&highlight=super+power

"The Super Power Building".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Power_Building

Quote:
The Super Power Building or SP Building is an edifice in Clearwater, Florida that will be the Church of Scientology's largest property in the city when completed. The huge high-rise complex, which occupies an entire block at 215 S Fort Harrison Ave, will be topped by a 15-story tower surmounted with a bronze Scientology cross that will be visible over a wide area of Clearwater. The building has been under construction since 1998 but has yet to be finished.
"...has yet to be finished." Translation... "has been abandoned."

A 170,000 square foot building which has been sitting like a blight in the middle of downtown Clearwater for going on ten years, and it's still only an empty shell. Construction on the building stopped completely in 2003, and, despite reports from the Co$ that the project would be completed in ,"mid 2008", to date, no further work has been started.
The Co$ spent ten years and well upwards of 50 million dollars(and still counting) to construct an abandoned building. Ten years ago the Co$ figured that thousand upon thousands of people would be flocking to Clearwater and The Sooper Dooper Power Building in order that they might be enthusiastically stripped of their cash and sanity. Things didn't quite pan out the way the Co$ planned, and the building sits abandoned... the outside facade has been finished, but the inside remains an empty shell.

-A funny side note...

The Co$ recently purchased two large(and very expensive) construction cranes and had them installed on the site of the Super Power Building. Why, you ask, would they install construction cranes on an abandoned construction project that never required such cranes at any stage of it's construction even when it was being actively worked on?

Simple... because only a pack of lunatics would install unneeded construction cranes at an inactive construction site, and the $cientologists certainly aren't lunatics so therefore the cranes MUST be necessary, and the construction site MUST still be active.

Make sense?

I doubt it ever calls on a US port, judging from the description of the ship it would be impounded within a second by the USCG. If they were so shoddy with the asbestos problems, I can only imagine how many safety or engineering violations there are. Also, who crews this ship? Deck and Engineering officers need to be licensed. They must have some foreign license with minimal qualifications.

When I graduated college with my USCG 3rd Mates license, I had the opportunity, by just submitting a photocopy of my 3rd Mates license, to get a Vanuata issued license. Back in 1992 they were working to become a leading "Flag of Convenience" nation for foreign ship owners.

These kinds of ship operators are scary.

The Co$ tried for awhile to operate the ship with church members, but it was a debacle... the handful of cult loonies they did manage to get properly credentialed to operate the ship still could barely manage to maneuver the ship away from the pier and navigate it out of sight of land. They finally gave up and now they contract with a private company to operate the deck and engineering.

And all the ships at sea can breathe a big sigh of relief.

Brings back memories of maneuvering around ships, obviously without a single watch stander on the bridge knowledgeable enough to obey and react to the rules of the road.
