Here is the thing. I just got a used comp (hey, it was free). It's an older version with XP in it. I have some CD with vids taken off the internet. I was trying to screencap a frame of the vid. I figured I'd screencap the entire screen and then edit it down in Paint, but, for some reason, the pic doesn't take. It does this weird window thing inside the paint window that is essentially a "hole" that I can see the vid through. When i save the image, it saves as a black screen.

Any ideas? Am I a retard and this is something Windows does on purpose?

Open Window Media Player
Then go to Tools | Options
In Options, select the Performance Tab
Click on the Advanced Button
Uncheck “Use Overlays’
Click Ok
And you are ready.

Don't feel too bad.... some retard once posted on a blog somewhere that this was Windows DRMing content. The overlays thing has to do with DirectX... if I recall, it basically tells Windows to let DirectX take care of anything under the overlay. DirectX can avoid some Windows overhead, so it (should) have a performance benifit; that's why its there.

It's still not working for me in most cases. Getting rid of the overlays seems to crash the player on some vids as well.

Hit Print Screen
Paste wherever.

I got the VLC. It's ok. Plays some videos that have strange formats. But then some normal formats won't play. It's kind of shitty, yet usefull.
