Say what you want, but I honestly think Obama does not believe in American exceptionalism.
Maybe because we're not exceptional. The Newsroom opening scene in 3, 2, 1.

Not with people like Obama in the Oval Office we're not.

Just for shits and giggles, name one country that has done more for the world and for its own population than the United States. And while you're mulling that over, be sure to remember that all the countries that liberals love to think are better than us we're either fascist dictatorships, or under the yolk of communism until VERY recently. It's called "American Exceptionalism," not "American Perfectionism." Just because this country isn't perfect doesn't mean it isn't miles and miles better than the rest of the shitty world.

How about England? Japan has done a whole lot for the world, Israel too.

America is great but let's pull our head out of our ass hear and stop acting like it's the fucking best shit ever.

And just because we might be exceptional doesn't mean that we can just skip over the difficulties and nuances of international relations.

Ahhh, the inventors of piggish colonialism who are still fighting over the Falklands with Argentina...

Japan has done a whole lot for the world,
You mean modern Japan, which is only modern Japan because of the US.

Israel too.
Let's be honest here - No US, no Israel. You think the Soviets would have sold us weapons to fight the Arabs? They were supplying the Arabs in an attempt to eradicate Israel for decades.

America is great but let's pull our head out of our ass hear and stop acting like it's the fucking best shit ever.
Not the fucking best shit ever. The fucking best shit the world has to offer.

And just because we might be exceptional doesn't mean that we can just skip over the difficulties and nuances of international relations.
That's horseshit. The Saudi royal family exists because of oil, which Americans discovered there. Saudi Arabia is a military power because of the US, which sells it Western arms. Those fuckers are at our mercy, not the other way around. Kind Abdallah should be kissing Obama's feet because he's so grateful that he doesn't have to live in a tent and defend his country with Mig 19s and T-40 tanks.

America is the best shit ever... deal with it.

The English would be speaking German right now if not for Uncle Sam.

The best thing Japan has ever done for the world was helping America test the efficacy of our nuclear weapons.

And if it wasn't for America, every Jew in Israel would've been eaten alive by savage muzzies decades ago.

'merica... fuck yeah.

Oh, okay, then America is the follower of piggish colonialism who are still fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yeah, I forgot that we discovered it. And I forgot how that means that we can just show up anytime we want and have our fill. Do you have any understanding of international politics? We don't have them at our mercy any more than they have us. But without proper discourse things could get real ugly over here. Which would you rather have, a higher price of oil and all international commerce or a president who is willing to make otherwise meaningless cultural displays?

That's bullshit and you know it. I'd expect a comment like that from others around here, but certainly not you.

He believes in American exceptionalism, who do you think is going to provide for all that wealth he wants to spread around? :icon_cool

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our exceptional individual initiative, but also because we do things together.

Alright... I'll give you that. America has made a horrible mistake in trying to save the muzzie savages from their own savage selves. It's an impossible task, and it was foolish(and very costly) to even try.

Hopefully(and apparently) we have learned our lesson, and now America can move forward and be even more awesomer still.

America is in a decline. Yes we were the best shit for a long time, and in a lot of ways still are. The problem is that other nations are catching up and even surpassing us in different areas. Growing up Americans are taught that we are the greatest nation of all time and that we are blessed to be Americans. While this is true in a lot of ways, it is not the attitude that made us great. It took a lot of hard work for our nation to get to where we are and it is going to take an equal effort if we want to stay on top.

I agree that America is in decline. Our precious bodily fluids have been sapped and impurified.

But America is still the bee's knees and the crow's toes... and if anybody doubts that, I will take off my shirt, throw down the gauntlet, and challenge you to a shower room towel snapping fight.

I will fight to defend the honor and dignity of this great nation we call America... which was unfortunately named after a greasy wop.

You can blame our decline on industry leaving our country. The town that I live in was a booming steel town 100 years ago. It's now a shell of old warehouses and factories either re-purposed or abandoned. All of the steel companies moved out in the 70's and 80's.

I've been to England, Japan, and dozens of other countries. Some have been very nice most have been shitty. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else but here. That's not coming from blind patriotism but because life here is just so much better.

And I really do not get exactly how you have come to the conclusion that we don't do more then any other nation to help others.

One mission I went on in the Navy was doing security for the USNS Comfort (hospital ship) as it went all over Central and South America providing medical, dental, vision aid, and even veterinarian services for livestock. They did everything from fixing hair lips to complicated surgery on the ship. Everywhere we went was a shit hole and everywhere we went we were usually told the same thing. We are the only people to come and help. In some places even the host nation government did nothing.

One guy told me that he had never even seen his government until police from the nation was there to help us with security. They didn't give a shit about their people. Their only concern was making sure nothing happened to us so they wouldn't look bad.

Even with all our problems we have the best nation in the world. For now...

I don't get how you came to the conclusion that I even remotely came to that conclusion.

I'm just saying that we're not so fucking great that we can afford to cast aside our international relations or ignore their traditions.

If he believes in American exceptionalism, then why would he want to "fundamentally transform" America? Why would his wife wait until her 40s to finally be proud of America?

We constantly do that. We are always going out of way to coddle other nations and their customs with no reciproqation what so ever.

You can't imagine the amount of power point lectures and pamphlets we get before going to other countries going on about their customs.

I lost count of how many COs made fools of all of us by doing some dumb shit because host nation people that wanted to fuck with us told them to just for shits and giggles. It is just like the old gag where the news anchor says whatever their teleprompter tells them no matter how ridiculous.

That's the problem with you liberals. No matter how much we do to make others comfortable it is never enough and when it goes to far and someone says something they are just a pompous ass who thinks too much of their country.

I've always considered you a decent down to earth guy even though we disagree often but sometimes you really surprise me
