That is a pretty cool story.

Of course now you'll probably have a few people demanding all layaway goods at K-Mart be paid off, because that's the only fair thing to do (see, can't kill cynicism that easily).

It's clearly someone from K-Mart Korporate doing this for the publicity.

That's how you keep cynicism alive.

Talking about this is bad for K-Mart, because the Gibsmedats will put a whole bunch of shit into layaway, then be pissed off when nobody pays off their xbox360, 20 games, 73" TV, etc. I remember a fiasco not to long ago where a millionaire in Omaha decided to buy all the little welfare burdens toys for Christmas. Not your usual toys, but the really expensive shit like video consoles, games etc.

The sheboons rushed the presents, fled out of the building and were on every corner from downtown through North Omaha holding up the toys trying to sell them. Cynical, be thy name.

Nice story indeed. We used to put shit on layaway
at Kmart when our kids were little and the wife wasn't
working. It was the best way to pay for Christmas gifts
and not run up credit card debt. I saw lots of people
standing in those lines with small bills and change just
trying to make the payments to keep their kids toys from
being put back on the shelves. This really does mean a lot
for some people that are down on their luck now.

My wife and I did it when were first starting out too. It was also a great way to keep the presents hidden so your kids couldn't find them. I bought my daughter a Barbie Jeep one year and there would have been no way to hide that monstrosity with her snooping around looking for presents.
