Never used one myself but a buddy has one and loves it.
I don't do a lot of camping or spend too much time away
from home, car or resort so I never bothered.

I looked into these a couple years ago, but didn't feel the ultra lightweight units were good enough yet.

I have an sCharger-5. I bought it when I went out to San Diego Comic Con because sometimes you have to wait outside, and what place is sunnier than San Diego?

The thing don't work if there's no sun, Chet... Unfortunately I visited SD while it was overcast. This year I invested in a 12000 mAh juice pack battery.

That being said, I brought it to a Met game last year where it was ridiculously sunny, and it charged my phone from 65% to 100% within a half hour. It was fantastic.

the sCharger 5 seemed a bit too small for what i need. the 12 is perfect.....as for me i'll be in the fucking carribean....trust me, it's sunny there. ;-)

i tested mine out the second it arrived and as i said earlier, i was very impressed.

Only a smelly socialist hippy would use a solar charger.

    True Americans charges with coal.

The cost/size/capacity ratio always seems to favor large battery packs or those energizer AA dongle things. I suppose solar is better if you're going to need quite a few charges over several days though.

Real men charge with nuclear power while cooking hot dogs over a burning electric car.

You forgot they do it while wearing a baby seal skin fur coat that still has fresh blood stains from a good clubbing.

Why would I need this when I can just plug my phone in to my car?
