Every time I think about Sons of Anarchy, I just think about "The CIA was behind it all." I blame Stormrider for making me realize the ridiculousness of that line and therefore the show.

I really try to not think about that, but it's tough. It's sad when you can point out with such horrible accuracy when a great show jumped the shark.

Who is at fault, though? The show creators for taking a great show about small town politics and family power struggles and introducing ridiculous international arms and drug trafficking?
Or the show consumers for getting bored with the good show and then hating the stupid version?

I guess its the producers, they get a niche audience and figure if they add more explosions and less of what brought the original audience they will get more ad dollars for a while.
It works, so there's no fighting it.

I don't know any fan who was like "Season 2 wasn't ridiculous enough. I need international spy games and the CIA."

The weird thing was, while I was mostly annoyed with Season 3 because of the Ireland trip (and, to be completely honest, I thought the Gemma's dad subplot, while well acted, was mostly filler or maybe I'm annoyed with the need to put an Alzheimer's person in everything these days), I really liked Season 4. Up until TCIBIA. And I didn't fully comprehend how nutty it was until I saw that line in print on this board.

To be fair it's the most realistic depiction of CIA involvement I've ever seen on TV, but it was still a ridiculous leap.

It's being thrown in to help expand the story out for the extra seasons.

Its like I said in the season four thread. The CIA's activities on this show aren't out of the realm of possibilities. I just wasn't expecting to see them on a show about an outlaw motorcycle club.

Can one of you asnwer me a questions about it?

Are they saying the CIA infiltrated the cartel and flipped the 2 leaders to CIA informants? Or that Machete and Acevado have always been CIA agents that went through the ranks and becmae the leadrs?

Your first one is the closest to the correct answer. I think, basically, Machete's part of the Cartel was approached by the CIA. The CIA says "we'll help you guys win if you help us". Machete said ok.

I think its the other way around. Machete and Acevado are actually CIA agents.

I was thinking Machete was a flipped cartel member and Acevado was his CIA u/c handler.
