Who is at fault, though? The show creators for taking a great show about small town politics and family power struggles and introducing ridiculous international arms and drug trafficking?
Or the show consumers for getting bored with the good show and then hating the stupid version?
I guess its the producers, they get a niche audience and figure if they add more explosions and less of what brought the original audience they will get more ad dollars for a while.
It works, so there's no fighting it.
I don't know any fan who was like "Season 2 wasn't ridiculous enough. I need international spy games and the CIA."
The weird thing was, while I was mostly annoyed with Season 3 because of the Ireland trip (and, to be completely honest, I thought the Gemma's dad subplot, while well acted, was mostly filler or maybe I'm annoyed with the need to put an Alzheimer's person in everything these days), I really liked Season 4. Up until TCIBIA. And I didn't fully comprehend how nutty it was until I saw that line in print on this board.
