"hate the haters." -Bob Kelly
Time to get a new show to listen to for some of you, eh?
I liked it when Opie said "Eat your own"
"Squish the bugs" makes it sound housewifey...
if they don't complain about the show, they'll complain about something else.
Accept that not everybody will like everything you do and move on?
I was sorta surprised that Ant reads the Listening Thread at the same time he's doing the show. Brings instant feedback to a different level, and not nececessarily a good one. The relatively small number of fans that post to this thread incessantly for several hours at a stretch isn't a very good sampling of the listeners' opinions, imho.
I agree there are people that have complaints about the show like "its not like NEW or it should be a drive time show" those are personal complaints but there are some people who constantly just say that everything sucks and they just come across like "look at me i dint like the show I'm different and cool" that get annoying...liddy your criticism of the show is fine because its actually thought provoking.
This is one thing I can't figure out. Before I listened to O&A I listened to Bob and Tom, The Monsters, and Lex and Terry. They don't acknowledge the fact that there are people out there that don't like their bits. Why can't O&A just move on when a dumbass calls the show or writes in that the show sucks. I agree these people that call the show to voice their opinion suck ass. But I don't get it that on a messageboard about numerous radio shows and other topics that a person should be banned cause they don't like one aspect of one of the shows. I have voiced my opinion on this board about the boys in a bad way. But I also show overwelming support for Ron and Fez and O&A most of the time. Should I be banned cause I don't agree with them 100 percent of the time? I think the boys should just suck it up and move on. It's only one or two guys that do it. To act like those two guys are really getting to you is just ridiculous. For every hater that is out there there are 1,000 fans that like them.
I just dont' understand how peopel would complain about them going long today on the FM side. It makes zero sense. Ant hit the nail right ont he head today, people really are just getting the 'entitled' feeling. You're a listener...STFU and listen.
*Edit: Except maybe Steve from Bayshore, i'm convinced he's a paid member of the show. (Either that or he sucks a good cock)
I squished a bug today....
About a year ago I was starting to get like that...overly critical and I just realized I was spending too much time on the show...way too focused on minutia...so i just backed off...listened more casually for a while and used Audible downloads more so i can forward through stuff and for me personally its made the show much more enjoyable now..I dont hang on every break like I used to...
I think they know that not every one likes everything they do 100% of the time.
However, when you come to a fan-site, why would you expect or want to see thread upon thread and post upon post of "this sucks" and "bla bla bla... WNEW days... bla bla bla" ... If someone don't like the show, that's fine, if someone doesn't like one segment/bit on the show, that's also fine. If the same person goes around to every thread just to point out much they did/don't like [whatever] part of the show - who needs them? Now, that's not to say that said person is automatically going to be banned because everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
However, when said person starts to become a nuisance to the other members with their constant bitching, they will be looked upon differently by the staff, and possibly banned
Any other place will spin our rules to meet their benefits and justify their own actions. However, there is a reason why wackbag has been here for about 8 years now, and I don't think that someone crying foul is going to cause us to change the rules.
Oh yeah, and just as a side-note:
For a quarter more you can get the large.
Well said Zag, especially when those same people would never speak out against the show on air with the boys. They'll IF, they'll bitch here, but I don't see too many of them actually picking up the phone, calling, and talking about it.
The whiners have an opinion, of course, we all do. But just like people who call and say they love the show, you have the opportunity to call and tell Op and Ant exactly what the issue is. Fuck, most of the time they beg for the people bitching to call in so they can talk about it. I guarantee the same people that bitch are the ones that get pissed whenever the boys talk about douches hiding behind keyboards.
Maybe the "bugs" feel insignificant, maybe they wanna stir shit up, maybe they just want to be reacted to, but why wouldn't you do it with the people that actually can have an effect on whatever your complaint is? If you'll call and tell them, cool, good for you. If you'd rather just leave it here or send it through IF to avoid consequences, deal with the reaction you'll get from the people who don't agree with you and don't want to listen to you whine on what's supposed to be a fan-site.
would that be in the *large* 44oz collectors cup, filled with your favorite pepsi beverage? (by the way - you missed a few kernels under the drink tower, and Don's gonna be pissed at you. But if you double the yellow salt it'll be all good)
This is exactly what I spoke with Bob Kelly about outside. The problem is that you have to appeal to a much larger audience than just the pests, so that you can't impress everybody all of the time. Be greatful that they even pay attention to the fans, as Howard doesn't give a flying fuck about a single person that listens to his show.
Truth be told, I was bored to shit during the Chris Cornell interview in the green room. You know what? I told them that it was boring me to shit, but I did it nicely. They do realize that it can be boring to some people, but again, to a lot of other people, Chris Cornell is a very interesting guy. I personally don't like him or his music, but he does have a great vocal range.
Try to learn that not everything is going to be specifically tailored to each individual listener, and try not to take everything so personally. I swear, some of the people on here might need to change their manpon.
I agree that the constent bitching by some people is dumb. Those people should be made example of. I think I only complained once or twice and After that I did figure out that I was turning into one of these overcritical asses and stopped. I just don't want to be banned for going against them.
I actually enjoyed the show today. Chris Cornell being one of my favorites it was a pleasant surprise. Going long is fine with me. And like I said in the listening thread I understand FM is very important to O&A. So I expect them to pump up the FM side a lot. There are more opportunites there and a bigger audience potential.
What I will also say is as a listener that does and will be open and honest about my entire opinion of anything at any given moment is stop throwing all people who have any criticisms into this category of "whiner." Most of us know everyone will never be pleased all at the same time ever with all O&A do. And such an overwhelming number of us appreciate the show in it's entirety. For that, no we aren't entitled to, but think it would be at least decent to separate the people who "bitch" about the show from those who simply express everything openly.
The Listening Thread is also one of the worst places to start if you want the overall opinion of the show. It's temporary minute to minute snapshots of opinions. If you sampled the LT the other week during the shit eating fest of 07 you'd get an overwhelmingly different opinion compared to say the Tammy Faye bit, or Norton and Harry Potter etc.
I think it works both ways. if your general opinion of most of what O&A do is negative, yes you should seriously look into some other show to listen to. And if you're a host of said show you should seriously consider if reading what's being posted is the best thing to do.
It can be fun to break balls during a bombing segment like "The 2 Corey's" or a bit that is going nowhere like the "Hot Rod" contest, but there are too many people that complain about and critique every fucking aspect of the show. None of us want to be like Stern zombies, but the constant harping about the show is fucking annoying. There really are too many dicks on the boards and Paltalk lately, especially in the last year.
The bitching about the show is annoying, and the bitching about the bitching is equally annoying.
It's the nature of the beast here, and will always be that way though.
For some reason I cant create a thread (even though I've been a member for years) so I'll put my bitch in here.
Foundry Music fucking blows. how about a fucking Opie and Anthony site that is just for- wait for it- OPIE AND FUCKING ANTHONY. Every fucking thing on foundry has to have that shitty logo, and every time you search for something, half the results are fucking porn teasers so steve can make more money to fund his cock habit. I understand back in the 'NEW days when it was the unofficial home of O&A that Steve needed help to pay the bills, but now its just ridiculous. It took them years before they figured out "gee people don't like downloading fucking zip files and unzipping them just to see a video of a guy getting kicked in the balls" and went to a flash video system like every other fucking website.
The point of the website is to house media for the show that hopefully people will watch and decide to buy xm or listen on FM, not for fucking steve to sell fucking pornos. And Jeff- don't even bother posting your using "wah wah wah, i'm doing the best i can, let me see you do better" shit. Time to "squish the bug" that is foundry. Hire a real company to make a real O&A only website- no CBS, no XM, and no fucking foundry.
It's gotta be pretty fucking hard to ignore when every day they when they read the instant feedbacks and log onto the fan sites they get hit with a shitload of negativity. It would piss of most people. Imagine going to work everyday, and a large number of the people you serve/perform/cater/heal/design/teach/ETC. tell you that you suck. It would get to you.
I can totally agree with that. But seriously how much negative shit can they be getting. Looking at the overall board here, and the calls I'd be willing to bet the amount of negative shit they get isn't comparable to the positive input they get.
I seriously think it's an issue of seeing that rare asshole's complaint that goes above and beyond the pale and thinking "damn, how could you?" There will always be that one guy who gets to us from time to time and I think they shake most of it off.
And I know it can be shitty to have to deal with that but that's nothing unique. Especially in radio where you have an "interactive" show. They have a job where they are exposed to the public, and have themselves chosen to get even more up close and personal (paltalk, instant feedback, etc) so this kind of thing happens. Does it suck? Yes.
Unless you were a prostitute then it would be kind of redundant being told that "You suck".
I think that if you believe everybody likes everything about the show, you're a fool. And if you expect everyone to like everything, you're even more of a fool. So what if people complain. It's starting to get a bit ridiculous. It seems as if you are not a yes man, and simply do not agree with whatever happens, you get attacked. That's stupid. And I don't buy this crap that since it is a fan site you have to be positive. No one can please everyone 100% of the time. Deal with it.
Who cares if someone didn't like a bit. That's life. I think it's allot more ignorant to expect 100% ass kissing like they seem to be doing lately.
Today, I loved the last hour of the FM show but thought the interview prior to that sucked. So what? Does that make me a bad person. Who cares what I like or don't like? People got to quit trying to turn everyone into f'ning yes pussys who dare not disagree just to fit in.
"You suck at sucking" might hurt.
ironically this is the part of the show i hate. who give a shit about someone on paltalk not liking the interview. move on.
