Just started the second Mistborn series. The addition of firearms definitely adds a wrinkle.

You must have liked the first three? How would you compare them to Stormlight?

I think it's just as good. You can see some similar elements, but the world has a totally different feel.

While I'm thinking about it, someone here should check out The Tales of the Otori.

Are we talking "grand fantasy" like LOTR, or can we include other stuff?

Larry Correia's Monster Hunter International series is contemporary fantasy (vamps and weres in modern day) crossed with gun porn. Fun stuff.

For something grittier, funnier and less magical check out anything by Joe Abercrombie.

Imagine if DEADWOOD was a medieval fantasy series instead of a Western and you get an idea of the tone of much of his work.

Just finished The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. Really good books kinda wordy, and archaic. But a good read.

I stand by that, though it's hard to compare the two.

As for the second series. Crossing the Mistborn universe with a wild west type setting is just proving to be cool beyond belief. The gunfights are amazing....

Easily. Just in totally different ways

This second series is just fantastic. An even mix of fantasy and old west with more than a touch of superhero feel, it's totally unlike anything else I've read.

Wax and Wayne is one of my favorite character duos ever. I wish I had a tenth of his ability to write dialog.

Also:
The first series being the basis for the modern religion is excellent. He managed to take things that became commonplace in the first series and turn them into something mystical and new.

I think I've only read the first Wax and Wayne book so that series may very well be as good as Stormlight.

Speaking of Correia, he has a new epic series that people are digging. Think I'll start it.

I am running out of Mistborn. Maybe I'll delve into some more Correia.

Hard Magic was great.
