I am greatly surprised by how much of a push this movie has gotten. I didn't think it would get this much attention.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall did very well and I think was really good. Studios are really liking Jason Segal and I think he's a competent writer.

This push has had me going back and looking up all sorts of Muppet stuff. I took for granted how many characters there were.

I really do get the sense that this is a labor of love for Segal, and I think that's pretty cool. Which is part of the reason why the push fascinates me.

I read the following on another message board and it may explain the push:

The Muppets were already more or less destroyed when Disney acquired them in 2004; they started out as true family entertainment (i.e. some thing for everybody) and eventually became just for kids, generally young kids.

My understanding of this movie is that its a very conscious attempt to rectify that. Though apparently Frank Oz is pissy about it.

The Muppets are great, I honestly can't wait to see this. The Muppet's Family Christmas is still my favorite Christmas movie.

I went out and bought the Muppet movie for my daughter before I started seeing all the ads.. I just got the muppets take Manhattan.. its amazing that I haven't seen it in 25 years and I still remember what comes next in the dialog in some scenes. Now my daughter will know who the muppets are when she goes to see it. Looking forward to it. Hope it doesn't suck.

I know it would never happen, but it would be kind of awesome if Avenue Q puppets made an appearance in this movie.

Saw it last night and think it really holds a lot of appeal to anyone who grew up loving the Muppets. I'm very concerned about it's box office with Arthur Christmas coming out in the same weekend. Animated movies tend to do better and it's getting very positive reviews also.

BTW that piece of shit hack said on R&F last week that RT doesn't acknowledge his contrarian horseshit anymore.

I think that the Muppets has a pretty good chance as parents might try to direct their kids toward that knowing that they'll be able to enjoy it as well/might want to see it themselves.

And Rotten Tomatoes knows this because he moved to a new publication, and they are trying to expedite the verification process to get his reviews back on Rotten Tomatoes.

Oh that's a shame. I was hoping RT was trying to have some editorial integrity and not allow attention seeking whores like him to make a name for themselves on their site.

When I went to see Hugo last night (which was fantastic), only three people including myself were in the theater and the Muppets had a huge audience. I never knew they were that beloved.
