Since "The Twelve" is coming out in a couple of weeks, I thought this series could use its own thread. I know there are a few people on here who are fans of "The Passage".

Plus, we better start using the "Books" forum or they might take it away from us.

I'm probably going to reread "The Passage" since it's been so long.

I am going to give it a quick read just to refresh my memory. Can't wait for The Twelve, especially since Justin Cronin said that the name of the book is not related to the twelve that you think it is.

I didn't hear that... pretty cool. I definitely assumed the other way.

This is the most anxious I've been for a book sequel in a long time. I'm hoping to start rereading "The Passage" this weekend.

Outside of the A Song of Ice and Fire sequels, I totally agree.

Yeah luckily I've had some self-control with those and have been reading each novel right before the start of the corresponding series, so if I wanted (and I've been tempted) I could blast through the next three books back to back.

I've never heard of this series.

You know what we should do? Never mind. I'll just go do it.

Saw the thread, good idea.

Anyway, read The Passage, it's fucking great. I don't even want to explain it because that might spoil it for you. Very good apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic novel.

It originally came on my radar because Stephen King wrote a rave review of it when it first came out. And he was right. It just rules.

I have it on my phone, started it, got a couple chapters and lost interest. Guess I'll give it another go. Great reviews, so maybe worth a little effort.

Stick with it. When it gets going, it gets fucking going.

So is The Passage the first book and The Twelve is the second book?

It's easily one of the best novels to come out in the last five years that I've read. "The Twelve" is probably the most anticipated sequel coming out this fall.

I know how that goes, but this probably deserves jumping to the front of the line.

Damn it. *goes to library page*

EDIT: And I might as well reserve The Twelve while I'm at it.

I had started it...then started school and lent it to my mom and she never returned it. That cunt is getting a bat up side the head.

Started re-reading this novel last night. Minus "classics" from school that I re-read in my 20s, The Stand is the only other novel I felt compelled to read again (although I'll probably eventually read The Dark Tower series again). I'm only ~8% in an loving it... I had forgotten some of the secondary story lines.

One of my favorite parts early on in the book (too vague to really be a spoiler):

In the last email the scientist in Africa sends his friend at Harvard he simply writes:

"Now I know why the soldiers are here".

Really loved how much weight that one sentence carried.

Making this a movie would be very hard. Miniseries would work much better.

And whiskeyguy - I remember that part. Very chilling.

I agree NeonTaster (this tag feature is pretty cool), a miniseries would be better, especially since the series is going to have three novels. The beginning of The Passage has many different story lines, kind of like the start of The Stand, and are all important and at least a fair amount of time should be spent on them.

If you haven't, you should really read Swan Song by Robert McCammon. It gave me the same sort of feeling as The Passage.

Yeah I read that a while back when I kept seeing it compared to The Stand... enjoyed it also. I might read that one again. Ever read any of his other work? I haven't, but it all has decent reviews on Amazon.

On another note, I need to stop referencing The Stand, we get it.

I haven't pulled the trigger on any of his other stuff yet (none of the plot descriptions jumped out at me immediately) but I definitely will at some point.

Start re reading The Passage in anticipation of The Twelve. 2 pages in and "the feeling" is back. I don't know how to explain it. Certain books just give me "the feeling" and this is absolutely one of them. Same with The Stand, The Dark Tower, Swan Song, and a couple of others.
