I am sur that we will talk about the ramifications of the election soon enough, and what it means for the country. But let me tell you...this was an almost perfect night not just for Democrats but for LIBERALS in particular. 5 REASONS 1. TEA PARTY BECOMING A LIABILITY TO THE REPUBLICANS -That lunatic Tea Party guy Allen West lost. -Another Tea Partier featured at the RNC, Mia Love lost IN UTAH. -Another Tea Partier Joe Walsh loses...to a disabled woman, Tammy Duckworth, a veteran of the war in Iraq and a double amputee. 2. GOOD NEWS -Mourdock and Akin, the r@pe tag team lost. -Linda McMahon lost. -Scott Brown lost in Massachusetts. Ted Kennedy's seat is back. -Joe Kennedy III, grandson of RFK won. We have a Kennedy in Washington again (Barney Frank's old congressional district). 3. DIVERSITY -We got 4 new women, including an Asian and a Lesbian in the Senate. Ami Bera won too...an Indian in Congress. -The two Muslims in Congress won...Andre Carson (IN) and Keith Ellison (MN) -We got Tulsi Gabbard and Mazie Hirono, the first Hindu in Congress, and the first Buddhist in the Senate, respectively. 4. THE FUTURE -I think that crazy Michelle Bachmann will hold on but by a razor thin margin despite re-disricting. Star candidate + fundraising in a non-Presidenial year means she will be toast soon enough. -Florida votes NO on the proposition to limit Obamacare. -Florida votes NO on the proposition to ban public funds for abortions. -Maryland allows gay marriage. -Massachusetts allows Medical marijuana. -Minnesota rejects the banning of gay marriage. Washington too. -Washington and Colorado legalize marijuana. -There are 4 Supreme Court justices in their mid to late 70s, and 1 is a swing vote, 1 is the most conservative. 5. DIVERSITY (PART 2) -Latinos saved Obama in Nevada and Colorado. He got 87% in Colorado from them (up from 2008) and they urned out in droves and were 18% of the vote in Nevada. -CNN reported that Latino voters made up 10 percent of the overall electorate in early exit polls. -Latinos made up 7.4 percent of the overall vote in 2008. -Young (18-29) voters were about 19% of the electorate. New high. -Black turnout was good again: Reports say heavy African American turnout in Philadelphia, Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Miami changed the dynamic in four battleground states. -In Florida Blacks, Hispanics and Asians made up 30% of the electorate. One exit poll showe Obama won Asians 73-26 -Obama got 70% of the Jewish vote according to Exit Polls. If these trends continue, the liberalization of this great counry continues...its fucking awesome to think what the future will hold... PS I'm not a drinker but this is the drunkest i've been in a while. Free campaign booze.
