Suspect in jogger assaults jailed in child-**** investigation

Duane "Eddie" Starkenburg, awaiting trial on charges he grabbed female joggers in Lincoln Park and buried his face in their buttocks, is now being held in the King County Jail on investigation of child ****.

A West Seattle man awaiting trial on charges he grabbed female joggers in Lincoln Park and buried his face in their buttocks is now being held in the King County Jail on investigation of child ****.
Duane "Eddie" Starkenburg, 46, was arrested Jan. 25 and charged with two counts of indecent liberties and one count of attempted indecent liberties for three alleged attacks on female joggers. His parents posted his $150,000 bail, and Starkenburg was released from jail two days later.
On Saturday, a King County District Court judge found probable cause to hold Starkenburg on investigation of child **** for an alleged incident that happened approximately 10 years ago. He was arrested Friday at his parents' house and is being held in the King County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to jail and court records.
King County prosecutors expect to file formal charges Tuesday, said Dan Donohoe, spokesman for King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg.
According to court records, Starkenburg's trial on the indecent-liberties charges is to begin in November.
During the follow-up investigation into Starkenburg's alleged conduct in Lincoln Park, a Seattle detective interviewed a single mother who had hired Starkenburg to do handyman work around her home and then began dating him, according to the probable-cause document outlining the police case against Starkenburg.
The woman met with police on Sept. 16 and said her daughter was 9 or 10 years old when she was molested by Starkenburg, the document says. Now 20, the daughter told detectives that Starkenburg offered "a massage" and then molested her, and that he may have molested her more than once.
The woman broke up with Starkenburg but never reported the alleged molestation to police, the document says.
Police also interviewed a neighbor of Starkenburg's who said that, several years ago, Starkenburg had grabbed her shoulders and offered her a massage, but she was able to get away from him, the document says.
After Starkenburg's arrest in January, his public defender requested a reduced bail amount and told the judge the crimes Starkenburg is accused of committing were "really inept attempts to meet people."
After his parents posted his bail, Starkenburg, in an interview with The Times, denied attacking the female joggers.
"It's not like I'm this guy who puts on makeup and is running around attacking women," he said.
In August 2010, and again in December, two women reported to police that a man came up from behind them, pretended to trip, grabbed the women's hips and then buried his face between their buttocks, according to the Seattle police. Both women were able to fight the man off and flee.
Then in January, a 27-year-old woman was jogging on the waterfront trail in Lincoln Park, in the 8000 block of Fauntleroy Way Southwest, when a man ran up behind her and attempted to tackle her, throwing his arms around her legs, police said. The woman, who was not injured, was able to break free and get away.
Starkenburg was arrested as he attempted to cross Fauntleroy Way Southwest immediately after the January incident, police said at the time. The two other alleged victims identified Starkenburg as the man who attacked them from a photo montage, according to police.
Information from Seattle Times archives is included in this report.
