I've got a nice little pork roast going with some Bavarian sauerkraut I got from a neighbor. That, some apples in there, a lil brown sugar....

Delicious. Whole house smells amazing.

Anybody else like crock pots?

Just playin. Crock pot or "slow cooker" as called by fancy men, is a great way to make roast, stew, chili, etc. A great cold weather appliance for sure.

Can you make hot dish in a crock pot?

I think green beans and corn should be used as the vegetable. The other stuff can get mushy in the crock pot. Cream of Mushroom soup, about 30 ounces, is needed.
Don't get Handsome Fancy Dan and substitute for the Cream of Mushroom.
I and the internet agree, don't use chicken, celery and all that nonsense. Cream of Mushroom!

Package of tater tots on the bottom.
Mix the meat a pound and a half to two pounds ground hamburger, cooked, then about 30 ounces of the Cream of Mushroom and a package of green beans and a can of corn, drained in there
Mix it all up, on top of the tater tots.
Have some green beans to put on top of the mixture with some sliced cheese and those little cooked onion things. Put it on top and the crunchy onion things for last when it is about done.
This keeps the bottom moist and the top crunchy and cheesy. If you put the onions on right away all the condensation from the slow cooking is going to drip all over them and make 'em soggy
and defeat the point of 'em.

Don't rush the cooking. Some recipes are fine on the high setting for about 4 hours. This calls for a slower cooking on a lower setting for about 4, 5 hours.

You can tweak it as much as you want. Change vegetables, meats, quantities etc. Just I am serious, leave the Cream of Mushroom alone.

Mmmm. I've had tater tots on top and bottom. I don't have a top recipe with cheese though you could just put them on top and put cheese on it I think.

Just make sure you have a big enough crock pot for all those shenanigans. If it is a 6 quart use it as a gallon/4 quart, etc. That is one of the only ways to fuck up on a crock pot recipe is to just jam everything in there.

White chicken chili. I liked to add more green chilies and a pinch of cayenne pepper.

Ingredients
1 1/4 lbs boneless skinless chicken
2 (15 ounce) cans great northern beans or 2 (15 ounce) cans navy beans
1 (15 ounce) cans hominy or 1 (15 ounce) cans white corn
1 (1 1/4 ounce) envelopes taco seasoning
1 (4 1/2 ounce) cans of chopped green chilies
1 (10 3/4 ounce) cans condensed cream of chicken soup
1 (14 ounce) cans chicken broth
1/2 cup sour cream
chopped green onions (optional)
monterey jack cheese (optional)
Directions
Place chicken in a 4 quart slow cooker.
Top with beans and corn.
In a medium bowl, combine taco seasoning, chiles, condensed soup, and chicken broth. Pour over top of ingredients in the crock pot.
Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours.
Before serving, stir gently to break up chicken, then stir in the sour cream.
Serve topped with green onions and jack cheese, if desired.

Goddamn, that sounds delicious. I don't have a 4 quart though, I only got an 8 and a 6. Whatever, I like cooking in the larger ones, turns out better for me.

Here's a great slow cooker recipe...

Throw an old combat boot in the cooker, fill with water, and simmer for 8 hours.

The boot will be melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

Slow cookers perform culinary miracles.
