RONDA ROUSEY Becomes 1st Female Fighter to Join UFC
EXCLUSIVE

Ronda Rousey just made MMA history ... becoming the very first female fighter to join the UFC ... TMZ has learned.

Rousey -- a former U.S. Olympian -- has officially joined Dana White's MMA organization ... and automatically becomes the 135 lb women's champion.

We're told 25-year-old Ronda will defend her title in 2013 -- possible opponents include Sara McMann, Cris Cyborg and rival Miesha Tate.

Rousey has been fighting in Strikeforce since last year and emerged as a superstar ... beating the living crap out of just about everybody she's faced. In fact, she's undefeated. Just check out this highlight reel.

(WARNING: SHE SNAPS SOME CHICK'S ELBOW IN THE VIDEO)

And there's more ... sources say Strikeforce, which airs on Showtime, will be running its last event in January before folding up shop for good. A rep for Strikeforce had no comment.

It's a pretty crazy turn of events -- considering last year, Dana told TMZ women would "NEVER" fight in the UFC.

She needs to fight Cyborg. After that, she needs to fight 135 men or retire. There's nothing else in Women's MMA.

Good for Ronda, but I'm more interested in Strikeforce finally folding for good and having Melendez, Mousasi, Cormier, Jacare and maybe even Barnett in the UFC.

She lost to Cyborg and went into fulltime acting.

Meltzer said there is something to the rumor about Roussey & another female coaching TUF, but as of now they are leaning to having guys as contestants

INSIDE MMA
Dana says his stance on women’s fighting changed because of Ronda Rousey since seeing her fight, but more importantly meeting her. She’s a beautiful girl, but on the inside she’s a Diaz brother, who is mean, nasty, and a real fighter. He’d like to see her debut next Saturday, but that’s not going to happen so they’ll see what happens. Dana says the main issue of a Rousey-Cyborg fight isn’t the weight, it’s that Cyborg doesn’t want to fight Rousey. He is trying out UFC women’s division at bantamweight and feels it is stacked enough to create some serious opposition for Ronda as the first official UFC Bantamweight champion.

Rumor is she might headline UFC 157 with Machida vs Hendo as the Co ME.

That's a good start, but the UFC is going to need a lot more than that if they think fans will order a fight headline by women.

Way too early for that IMO

Ronda headlining a PPV card?

I completely agree.

The only way a women's fight should be on a PPV card is if it's for the belt and is the co ME to another title fight.

Exactly
Like I said, RR headling a Fox card is smarter. It would be their hifghest rating & then ...... maybe she can headline a PPV

Here's how much the UFC thinks of Ronda Rousey and her exploding star power: the newly signed women's bantamweight champion will most likely main event a pay-per-view in her octagon debut, UFC president Dana White said.

"She's the champ," he said. "Unless there's a weight division higher than her that the champ would be defending the title, then yeah, she'd be the main event."

She's a bit heavier than Bantamweight, Cyborg beefed up (roided up) to a higher weight class to fight her. Cyborg kicked her ass, and then after that there wasn't much left for Carano to do besides fight whatever cans they dug up. Women's MMA is still a fledgling thing, and most of the decent fighters are Bantamweight. Rousey's got true star power, but UFC's gonna have a hard time finding real competition for her. She's an armbreaking machine.

Are you sure?

When she fought Akano (last fight before Carano) she was overweight by 6 pounds (150).

Even before that, most of her fights were around 140lbs+.

If anything, the reason she failed her last drug test was because she used a banned substance used mostly to cut weight.

Cyborg is a beast, I don't blame Ronda for going down to 135 where she can be the bully.

Second UFC women's fight set: Miesha Tate meets Cat Zingano at TUF 17 Finale

At long last, the UFC has booked its second women's fight.

Former Strikeforce bantamweight champion Miesha Tate (13-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will face Cat Zingano (7-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) in April at the TUF 17 Finale. UFC officials on Monday announced the matchup.

The TUF 17 Finale takes place April 13 at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The event is expected to have a main card on FX following prelims on FUEL TV.

Tate went 5-2 in Strikeforce and won the 135-pound title in July 2011 with a fourth-round submission of Marloes Coenen. But in her first title defense, she ran into Ronda Rousey and was submitted by a Rousey armbar in the first round. Tate, though, did last longer than any other opponent against Rousey.

She returned in August following the loss and submitted Julie Kedzie, ironically with an armbar, deep into the third round of their back-and-forth battle in San Diego. That win gave her six victories in her past seven fights, and she has nine stoppages in her 13 career wins.

Zingano has been perfect in her MMA career with six stoppages in her seven wins. In October, she submitted Raquel Pennington with a second-round rear-naked choke in her Invicta debut at Invicta FC 3. After being expected to make her Invicta debut, Zingano signed with Strikeforce this past August and was slated to face Amanda Nunes in September. But that card was canceled, and Zingano shifted back to Invicta to stay active.

Zingano, who runs a Brazilian jiu-jitsu school in Colorado, also holds notable wins over Carina Damm and Barb Honchak since turning pro in 2008.

The UFC's first women's fight takes place Feb. 23 at UFC 157 when Rousey defends her bantamweight title against Liz Carmouche. But until Monday, no other women's fights had been announced by the UFC, leading to speculation that the company was waiting to see how Rousey-Carmouche did before committing further.

But UFC President Dana White repeatedly has said the company has fights and female fighters lined up and a plan in place. Monday's Tate-Zingano announcement was the first sign of that.

Along with the welterweight final for Season 17 of "The Ultimate Fighter," the TUF 17 Finale also will feature a heavyweight bout between Travis Browne and Gabriel Gonzaga.
Interesting, I thought the UFC would wait until after the Rousey/Carmoche fight before they made another WMMA fight.

With Cyborg asking for her release, I'm assuming the UFC is hoping for Rousey and Tate II.
