Ridiculously fun, innovative, and free to play:

https://account.hirezstudios.com/tribesascend/

It's sort of a futuristic FPS, but the movement and gunning mechanics are completely brand new. It's like they took the concept of rocket only maps, made it not suck, then made the mechanics all about jet packs and skis. Yes, skis.

It's indescribable. Give it a shot.

While it is free to install and play, there's the whole thing where you can spend money to advance quicker and buy upgrades. However, if you buy one thing, no matter how cheap, you get double XP for life of the account.

Haven't got a chance to play since initially downloading it. Done with finals in a week, really want to give this a chance.

I went slow once and it was awful.

I was really addicted to this for like a month. It's a great game but I think I just got burnt out. I might start up again when they get more guns and maps. The only two problems I really had with it was the fact that people spawn in with their kit and the prices are too high. It doesn't quite have the scale of the old Tribes games but the gameplay is solid. Definitely worth trying if you haven't.

Checked it out at PAXEast... skiing is OK, but it's still "just another FPS" - Like Quake on speed.

I didn't want to ruin the fun you seemed to be having.
Tribes: Vengence had sliding and a grappling gun.

Is that the newer one? I just stumbled on this after a friend told me about it, I'm not informed on the progression of the titles.

It was a 2004 prequel and has more compact maps than Tribes 2 but had a single player mode.
