Verlanders No-Hitter

In probably 25 years of studying the game, his performance last night might've been the nastiest pitching I've ever seen in 9 innings from one pitcher. I've seen a lot of no-hitters, too. He was just in the zone.

It's probably the most memorable pitching I've seen since the sox had 4cg's in the playoffs. Buehrle's near-perfect game, and Schillings near-nono can't even compare.

If you're a baseball nerd and missed it, you truly suck. Ha-Ha.

I was listening to the Show today and Dibble said that it was amazing

the fact that the 2nd to last batter struck out on a 102mph pitch, after 100+ pitches is....phenomenal...that cannot be stressed enough..who throws 100+ that late in a game. I wonder what his arm felt like today...rubber?

I know you are a Sox fan and I am a Cubbies fan, but tell me Kerry Wood's 20 strikeout, 1 hitter wasn't one of the most freakish games pitched ever.

this is what i was thinking. i mean damn he was clocking at 99mph in the 8th and 9th plus the 102

the bigger question would be if this guy were a closer and knew he would only pitch one innings could he get that gun to register 110? adrenaline only goes for so long but two innings that late in a game? i dont think so

Hah. Definitely.

When I said "might've been the nastiest", Kerry Woods 20k's and clemens both 20k games were among my other choices :D

I loved his perofmance last night , i only watched from the 6th inning on, he got a hell of a play from Perez in the 8th.,but the pitch that amazed me was the backdoor slider he threw for a stikeout in the 9th ( not sure if it was the 1st or 2nd0 but what a hell of a pitch in that situation

I'm a Tigers fan, but that's far from the truth. Tonight is a perfect example of why too. Our bullpen is the worst in MLB.

Last night's game was great. Verlander's breaking balls are fucking crazy.

I have a feeling Detriot's guns are a little over the actual MPH, I mean they somehow have what like 5 pitchers who routinely hit 101?

That 102 pitch last night was up there, but I'd say it was like 96-97... still impressive.

Verlander has nasty stuff, but Peavy is a sick man. Every single pitch he throws dances back and forth and just falls out of the air straight down. He's sick, 8-1 after tonight with a 1.82 era opponent's average is below .200 he's got a like 9 or 10k/9innings. He's one of if not the best pitcher today.

I was at my brother's stupid graduation during the game, I'm so mad I missed it. I didn't know he had a 102 that late in the game, fucking incredible. As for the guns at Comerica, I've seen the ones in the park clock Zumaya at 104-105, when the ones on TV say 101-103 or something like that, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're a little off.

Don't I know it. Verlander's on my fantasy, along with the injured Joel Zumaya and the useless Todd Jones.

Verlander must of woke up the stupid Brewers, they are 12-2 since being no hit.

The scary thing about him is that his breaking pitches have been his biggest problem. The fastball is always great--and he's learned how to pitch with it in the 92-95 range rather than dialing it up to 100 all the time and wearing himself out. He's been working on his breaking stuff the last year or so from what I understand, and it certainly looks like he's found it.

Between him and that Miller kid they are going to be scary for a long time.

How are you gonna leave Bonderman out of that? He's got one of the sickest sliders in baseball. He's not exactly chopped liver.

and we drafted Rick Porcello, regarded as the best high school pitching prospect in the draft this year. Havent signed him as of yet, but he could be in the same class as JV, Miller and Bonderman. Nate Robertson isnt exactly old either.

Plus there's Dallas Trahern, Jair Jurrjens and a couple more promising pitchers down in single A. Once a few of the positional prospects move up a level, it'll be interesting to see how good this farm system really gets. Maybin is the only real stud, but there are several others (Deik Scram, Scott Sizemore, Gorkys Hernandez) who could turn into good prospects

i guess neither of you has been to the city of brotherly love
Listen, south side of Chicago at least has Jenks as closer when healthy. Philly has Tom Gordon or Brett Myers as closer when healthy. The Tigers have Todd Fucking Jones as closer, whether everyone is healthy or not.

When the league is hitting .302 against your closer and his K/BB rate is 16/14, you're bullpen is in trouble.
