My mom and I are going to come to New York to visit in August. I need some help on where to stay. Specific hotels anyone has had experience with or just general areas. I am finding some really good deals on travel sites but I don't want to end up staying in a shitty area/hotel. Thanks! :)

What's the price range for hotel stay.

One good savvy site is www.SideStep.com

You wanna stay around Mid-Town...from around 31 street to 60th street

we've been finding hotel + flight for 3 nights for around $600 per person, I looked at the hotels seperately and they are all in between $200 and $300/night which is about as high as we'd like to go.

Good advice, if you want to be around all the good stuff, look for something in or around Time Square, in the lower 40's on the west side. You’re walking distance from most of Broadway and some good restaurants.

I don't know how much these hotels charge per night, but they're good: Le Parker Meridien, Sheraton on 6th or 7th, Novotel near Times Square. Good luck!!

You and mom sharing a room? The Grand Hyatt's got double rooms for about $300 It's basically right on top of Grand Central. It's a Quick walk to the Empire State, the theater district or rock center. The park or 5th ave shopping is a bit further. All the Subways are right downstairs to get to the downtown attractions or the WTC site.

I recommend Hotel 17. It's in a nice area, very close to Union Square. It's quiet, very clean, and reasonable:

The rooms and halls are small and there are several bathrooms in each wing, with a sink in the rooms.

i really lucked out once. i went on hotels.com and found a room for 150 bucks right off Times Square. i think the place was right across the street from the small theater from that one-man Star Wars show. the place didn't look like much from the outside, but the room was practically an apartment. wood floors, dining room set, kitchen, the whole shebang. i also stayed at the Milford for 200 bucks a night, but i'd definitely stay in my room and off 8th Avenue past midnight if i were you. yikes.

The Millennium Broadway is a great hotel but it can be very pricey depending
on when you want to stay there.

The possibilities are seriously endless. What do you like? Get a Zaggats Guide. check out the fliers and magazines they have in the hotel lobby, or get a copy of Time Out New York magazine. Also, hotel's the Concierge can be a huge help, just tell him you want to avoid the tourist traps,

Dude, what ever kind of food you can dream up can be found in NYC. ENJOY!
