The 9/11 Moon Landings Were An Outside Job

Now it's time for Liddy to recommend the books. I initially had six suggestions but eliminated The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce and Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift because I couldn't imagine them getting significant amounts of votes. Also because Gulliver's Travels probably requires some knowledge of 18th century satire, and I think very few of us would bother with that.

So here's what we have. My top recommendation is High Rise, but I leave it to the people.

High Rise by J.G. Ballard
The Naked and the Dead by Norman Mailer
The Confidence Man by Herman Melville
The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut

I picked High Rise. Seems like an interesting concept, although The Sirens of Titan would probably suit me just fine.

I'm also split between High Rise and The Sirens of Titan. My initial reaction was to go with Vonnegut (plus the book is much more reviewed than High-Rise), but I'll let it sit for a week or so and see how I feel.

I'm tossed between High Rise and Naked and Dead. I'm going to have to sit on this one for a few days.

Me too. This is not my normal field of study.

The reason I recommend High Rise is because when I read it awhile back, I kept thinking "if done right as a movie, this could be the next American Psycho (movie)."

I picked high rise too. Love Vonnegut but read it already and high rise sounds like what i've been into lately

My library doesn't have high rise. Odd.

Went with The Naked and the Dead because I can actually find it at a local library.

I had a hard time choosing between High Rise, Confidence, and Sirens. I went with Sirens because I think it will offer the most to discuss. Oh shit, 3-3 tie. What happens in case of a tie? We aren't letting LiddyRules decide then are we? :action-sm

I have read one Ballard book and I found it at the bottom of a pile in an Irish bookstore. That must be the only place they can be found.

I can get High Rise from my library.

If the vote is still tied on the 27th, I will change my vote. I am the one vote that is not for the two tied books right now.
