Okay more condo bullshit. I'm in the middle of renovation our kitchen. Pretty much everything is ripped apart except for the sink. Last night my friend who is doing most of the install work was looking under the sink and found that we are going to have a hell of a problem taking out and putting in new cabinets unless we cut off the pipe past the sink valves. Not a problem normally but the water main in our storage room has two valves. One loose, one kind of green and stuck. The maintenance guy is coming out on Monday morning. If the water valves are okay and can be closed we are in business. If not, we actually would have to wait until May 1st to replace the with new valves because to shut off the water to our unit, we would have to shut off the water to the whole building which would turn the heat off which can't be done.

Does anyone know of a good way to loosen the valves without destroying them?

WD40 and elbow grease. Maybe a sham wow for when you flood the basement, those things soak up a lot of liquid!

That or since it's green you might want to try CLR.

No basement. Someone lives downstairs. I don't need a flood.

I assume the whole building is on a single meter and there's no individual meters with shutoffs you can use?

I'll mention it to Glenn Dandy when he comes over to install my sink.

I used it on my water valve on the input side of the water meter
I'm sure the valve will need to be replaced some time in the future
    It's probably 50 + years old
I'll have to get the water shut off outside for that
But all is good for now

I looked at the link, hovered, killed the sound on my laptop and clicked that link expecting something horrible to happen. To be honest I fully expected a combination of meatspin with Jaws theme music.

    This place damages you.

How would sharkbite get the valve unstuck?

It's a good/decent replacement but I think his needs are a bit different.

I have heard taking a propane torch and lightly passing it back and forth across a stuck valve can loosen it. But you need to be careful you don't overheat it or heat a single spot.

I'd put the Sharkbite on and then use the torch to free the stuck one, without having water gushing out.

The thought of that torch thing gives me the shits. I don't think I could do it.
