I have a clean install with zero updates and "automatic updates" is turned off. I haven't had one problem.

I just do a complete backup to an external hard drive every 2 weeks. If something gets fucked up, I can just restore it.

i want a mac...

I used to want one. Then I started using some of the higher end models at my 2 different (color proofer in pre-media and assistant photo editor at ESPN.com) jobs. I find them to be slower than my PC at home. I will stick with PC now.:icon_conf
