It makes me angry when I see American tax dollars being pissed away to pay for AIDS in other countries. We have people here who are without health insurance. There's no money for job training, education, highway/road repairs or to fix the broken down infrastructure.....but $30 billion goes to worldwide (not really worldwide, because most if it's going to Africa) AIDS.

Let's start giving help to those in the United States who need it, and I am talking about Americans who are in difficult circumstances through no fault of their own, not the jackasses who are poor by choice.

If they want to assist those countries, then send over some birth control so they can stopping having kids that wind up starving to death anyway.

If the US can spend $600 - $700 Billion dollars on a war that no-one's going to win I think we can throw some change at some real world issues too. If we as a people cared enough about our disadvantaged neighbors then we'd stop buying all these electronic trinkets and other shit that we don't need and start helping at a grass roots level. We have more disposable income than almost any other country in the world and yet we are the most selfish, self absorbed and inward looking nation on the planet.. Shame on us all.

African aids is actually the cure. Why would you want to fight the cure? To hell with those degenerate savages.

Why should we take care of the world? What ever happened to charity begins at home? How about figuring out a way to get affordable health insurance to everyone? How about figuring out a way to bring everyone in this country over the poverty level? Are you aware that there are parts of this country that still don't have indoor plumbing or electricity? The Appalachians is one of the poorest regions in our country.

We've tried educating the people in third world countries about the dangers of unprotected sex and yet they still have it, resulting in not only AIDS but women popping out more kids than a feral cat. People in India still bathe in and drink the same water as the cows they so revere even after we've spent how many millions of dollars educating them.

Nope, it's long overdue but once we've taken care of our own, then and only then should we be taking care of the rest of the world.

Those electronic "trinkets" that we don't need are small pieces of joy that our advanced nation should be allowed to indulge in. I get up and work everyday like other civilized people in this great country and I pay my taxes. I love how the civilized intelligent people of this world are creating new technology for my enjoyment,,,im paying for the stuff,,,the people who make the product get paid,,,the creater of the product get's paid,,,people who buy stocks on the product get paid= It's a win for all of us.

If you take a bath in cow shit when we have tried time and time again to help the advancement of your country then you can go fuck yourselves. Some people just don't get it,,,and others,,,well they don't wan't to get it.

As far as the topic at hand= The world depends on the USA to help them,,that's what we have been labeled as, the USA get's shit on untill somebody needs something. Everybody says, "oh they are such a selfish nation, etc.," Then when something goes wrong it's assumed that we will be there with troops, medicine, and money.

We don't do it for the purpose of making anything better.. The government does it to improve image, and private enterprise does it because it is a good business with loads of easy money to skim off.

How about putting the money towards something that can cure or treat sicknesses that people can't prevent like Cancer or MS. I work with a girl who is 28 years old and was just diagnosed with breast cancer. She has to have a double mastectomy. They had a benefit to raise money for her treatments. She didn't cause it and the treatments aren't much different than years past. My Uncle just died in August from liver cancer. He didn't cause it. Aids is preventable with a $3.00 box of condoms.

My feelings exactly! There are things people can do to prevent from getting AIDS.

For purely selfish reasons, I would love to see them pour more money into researching cures for MS - my sister was diagnosed 3 years ago - she was 36. It took the doctors 2 years to finally decide that's what it was. She didn't cause it. MS is totally unpredictable...fortunately, she's got the slow progressing type, but there are others who go down hill really fast - able to walk & talk today and tomorrow need one of those scooter things and be unable to communicate verbally.

QFT ... and might I add that we're shit on by these countries if in their minds we're too slow in providing the aid they're requesting. So basically, these countries are constantly shitting on us.

Again - charity begins at home. Our priority should be fixing what's broken here and if anyone thinks that there's nothing broken here, then I suggest you take off the rose colored glasses and take a look at the reality that is this country

its easy, use the savages as guinea pigs instead of americans, watch the film "origin of aids" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0438938/

we (the west) unleashed aids upon the world thew our "meddleing" in that part of the world, its our responsibility to clean the mess up the only way to do that is from the source.

It's my understanding that AIDS started in Haiti or some other third world country and not the United States. Regardless of it's origins, we've done everything we can to educate the savages as to how to protect themselves from the disease. Short of giving each one a savage-sitter to make sure they practice safe sex, there's not much else we can do. We've provided medication to help those who have contracted it, we've provided condoms and we've provided education. Since there is no cure, what else can we do? Answer = nothing.

I'm repeating myself, but we need to concentrate on fixing the problems at home. Make sure everyone here has some form of health insurance. Find a cause and cure for MS, find a cure for all forms of cancer, find a cause and cure for autism. Get electricity & indoor plumbing to those who don't have it yet. We help all the other poverty stricken countries but do nothing, or so it seems, for those poverty stricken within our own country. That's just wrong

aids made its way into the US via hati, but its origins are in what is now the republic of congo in africa, until we find the source of the virus we can not find a cure or a vaccine, and its not just aids, that we need to find a cure for, i agree that we should spend the money here, but that money will go much further in that part of the world, i hate to say it but we (the west) are responsible, as a civilized society, to care for those who we fuck up, its akin to us careing for live stock, we breed cows that are so mutated that they can not survive with out our help. wouldnt it be nice to just go over to africa and pick a donor heart right from the herd? i for one would love to get me a nice strong negro heart and lungs in a few years. i would rather not have to worry about aids when they put it in me

That's one of things alot of people seem to forget, that one of reasons why Africa is in its current situation is because of European colonialism and imperialism. I have no problem with money being spent in Africa to combat AIDS. In this country, that's another story. After almost 30 years, if Americans don't realize that unsafe sex and unprotected needles cause AIDS, then they desereve the disease.

I actually do support AIDS funding, because AIDS is contageous, pure and simple. Believe me, I see so much money spent on far stupider things that this is a drop in the proverbial bucket which actually might help.

Kris - I completely agree with you that we should be doing more in other areas, too - being someone who has a rare genetic disorder, I think that funding for research for my particular problem is asinine since it only affects less that one million people worldwide (medium-sized city). I fully support research for cancer and other far more widespread diseases, and I am also a firm believer that we as a country need to rethink our value of other people like other Western-civilized-first-world nations do.

Yes like the millions the United States government is spending on abstinence education, a HUGE waste of money as far as I'm concerned

not if you're one of the religious zealots who believe abstinence is the only form of birth control that God intended & there seems to be an awful lot of them around

The African savages have found a cure for AIDS... they believe they can cure AIDS by having sex with virgins. Meanwhile, South African government officials are busy insisting that HIV doesn't cause AIDS, and assuring their citizens that AIDS can be cured by taking vitamins.

The only AIDS research we should be financing in Africa should be towards finding a more efficient means of spreading the disease. We need to implement a mandatory AIDS inoculation program.

If more rich British cougars keep going over there, it will spread. Unfortunately, it'll spread back to civilization, so that might not work so well.

Does that even fucking make sense? Geez, I need sleep
