Xi3 Piston Available for Pre-Order

Console will start at $999.99.

March 11, 2013

Update: A Valve spokesperson has clarified to IGN that "Valve began some exploratory work with Xi3 last year, but currently has no involvement in any product of theirs."

Xi3's Piston console is now available for pre-order on the company's official site.

The Piston will retail for $999.99 with a standard 128GB of internal SSD storage, and can be upgraded to 256GB for an additional $340 or 512GB for an additional $750. The Piston includes 8GB of RAM and a 3.2 GHz quad-core processor and Xi3 expects it to be "shipped in time for the 2013 Holiday Season."

Pre-orders placed between now and the end of the SXSW festival in Austin (which concludes at 11:59 p.m.

Central on Sunday, March 17th) will receive a $100 discount off their order.

The Piston was revealed at CES and is backed by Valve as part of its Steam Box initiative (Valve will also manufacture its own hardware soon).

For more, see the details on Xi3’s site and read about why one IGN editor thinks the Piston will pull him back into PC gaming.

You can build a gaming PC for less then 1000 bucks and then jerkoff after your gaming using the same machine.

I'm sure computers have other uses but I don't use them.

Kinda what I was thinking, the price is high but I think Valve has the right idea trying to streamline PC gaming to appeal to the masses.

This is about $500 worth of parts if building a normal PC with same specs. You really are paying for small form factor here. The vesa monitor mount is a nice idea.
